Locking apps on iPad
I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I'm stressed to the max and didn't want to search through the forum.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.1)
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.1)
I'm confused...
The changes described in that link do not appear to satisfy the issues discussed in this thread. If they do, however, then everyone should be happy.
That's bad news - neither Mail nor Messages can be locked in the traditional way. Just checked out Sparrow (the best 3rd party mailer app) but it doesn't support passwords either.
Tdubs26, I didn't read all the answers cause most of the rudeness was ******* me off. I understand ur delimma. We are currently looking for the same thing. Apple doesn't seem to offer a program to lock a child into a program which holds only children's games....know to ppl with children as a "child lock". I'm currently searching for one. The Kindle Fire has an app called Zoodles with educational games and the ability to add whatever apps u want ur child lookinf at. toddlers enjoy the same "touch screen" as the iPad so u can play it off as an iPad for a while.
Lock features will be included in iOS 6 which will be released this fall.
thank you for posting this link. it made it worth it to read through that bickering... i've been researching this topic for what seems like forever. i have a student whose family really needs a lock app but i haven't been able to find anything.... can't wait for this to come out
I'm looking for the same sort of app as all of my family seem to be using my iPad and i dont want my brother posting on fb on my behalf. Very frustrating as I'm new to apple. I have an Andriod phone which has loads of apps available to lock individual apps. Strange that there isn't one available for the iPad. Andriod 1- Apple 0

So log out of the FB app when you're done.
There are other FB apps that allow multiple users or, as Meg said, log out.
Such a helpful response. It's not just fb that I would like to lock there are other apps too.
If your not going to make sensible suggestions please don't bother commenting
Logging out or using another FB app are both very 'sensible' suggestions considering that currently you have no other options. You're welcome to ignore them.
I'm in a similar predicament where I'm proposing to our local baseball league to start using a digital scoring system using the GameChanger app, however if we can't lock down the iPads that the coaches are using, they simply become a new toy for them to use.
Ideally having a local security policy of some sort where you can allow access to only the app needed and not the other features of the iPad would be ideal, so it could truly be used in an "industry" type environment and not prone to the human element.
iOS 6 in the Autumn (for iPad 2 and 3) has new accessibility features (from here) :
It allows a parent, teacher, or administrator to limit an iOS device to one app by disabling the Home button, as well as restrict touch input on certain areas of the screen.
Hey Penguin....thanks for the reply....I stumbled on that same page about 4 seconds after getting your reply. I'll wait with fingers crossed for ios6 and see what happens.

Sell your iPad and use the money to purchase an Android tablet that does what you want.
Chris CA if you're so hot on Android, why are you trolling this Apple Support discussion? I mean come on. Really?
