'No mountable file systems' when mounting FAT 16 DMGs

I'm having great difficulty mounting any FAT16 DMGs on my Mac. I've tried them on a friends Mac, the same files, same operating system version, same version of hdiutil, and they mount no problem. Mac OS extended file system DMGs will mount OK on my Mac, I've not tried FAT32.

Below is an example of the output from

hdiutil mount MacFUSE-2.1.dmg -verbose

Initializing…
DIBackingStoreInstantiatorProbe: interface 0, score 100, CBSDBackingStore
DIBackingStoreInstantiatorProbe: interface 1, score -1000, CBundleBackingStore

DIBackingStoreInstantiatorProbe: interface 6, score -1000, CVectoredBackingStore
DIBackingStoreInstantiatorProbe: selecting CBSDBackingStore

Error 109 (no mountable file systems).
Finishing…
DIHLDiskImageAttach() returned 109
hdiutil: mount failed - no mountable file systems

I've tried reboot, the disk utility to repair the disk, repairing permissions and even used Disk Warrior but to no avail. I've seen many posts with similar symptoms but no solution.

BTW. I have MacFuse version 2.1.5 & NTFS-3G installed.

Any help greatly appreciated, I'm at the end of my tether with this one 😟 Thanks

There's more.. I think my Mac is misinterpreting the underlying file system of the .DMG file. For example the MacFUSE-2.0.3,2.dmg file is MacOS extended on a Mac where it mounts, but my Mac thinks it's MS-DOS (FAT16)!
So can anyone help me now? Why is my Mac getting the file format wrong for the .DMG's that I'm trying to mount??

Any help please??

Cheers

I am not a high level pro in this but there are two options that you can try.
1. you can use third party that can mount FAT16 DMGs on your Mac.

visit http://www.google.com/search?q=mountdmg+on+macsoftware&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rlz=1R1GGLLen__IN421

2. This problem also occur due to the problem in the Mac OS X and in this situation you should use macintosh data recovery application.Since the OS can not find the system in proper format, this problem occurs. You can get the software from here, http://www.nomountablefilesystems.com
