iPod touch will not turn on, charge or do anything.

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I bought an iPod touch 4G. When I got home, I plugged my iPod into iTunes and synced it all up. It was working for about two hours but then it started to act weird. I would be in the middle of playing a game and it would freeze and not let me do anything. I tried pressing the home button, the lock button and the volume buttons but it just was not doing anything. I decided to put it down and just let it sit for a while. When I came back to it, it started working again but then a few minutes later it did the same thing. I tried to reset it by pressing the home and lock buttons together but that did not work. I put it away again and when I went back to it, it was fine. This happened about four times. The last time I restored it and it was working fine. This morning, it was doing the same thing so I tried to reset it and then restore it again. Nothing worked. I tried to plug it into the computer but it didn't recognize it. When I plug it into the computer now, the Apple logo appears on the screen but it goes back to black almost immediately; it keeps doing this. I have not dropped it or gotten water on it and, like I said, it was just purchased yesterday. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this topic.

- I would try resetting it next time you have problems. You almost did that from yur description. To reset:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- If still having problems then I would restore from backup via iTunes. If still problems restore to factory defaults/new iPod also via iTunes.
- Lastly, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store or call/contact AppleCare for warranty service.

The same happend to me last night, don't if it was a game update.

Anyway, my iPod would not turn on, connect to windows, etc

My solution was to put it in recovery mode:
1. connect the ipod to a computer or charger
2. press and hold the power button for 10 sec
3. press home button for 10 seconds, do not release the power button yet
4. after 10 seconds release the power button, keep pressing the home button
5. when you hear a sound, release the button and wait.
6. itunes will tell to restore it, do not do anything.
7. just wait 10 minutes in order to allow the battery to charge, then press the power button or press it for a few seconds
8. the iPod will restart, all should be normal, no data loss

My itouch 4 just did the same thing after updating coin dozer Chinese New Year edition. Started the update and instantly my itouch turned off. I knew it wasnt the battery as I charge it daily. This thread helped me fix my ipod in less than 60 seconds so I am giving it 2 thumbs up and a bump to the top of the list!

My solution was to put it in recovery mode:
1. connect the ipod to a computer or charger
2. press and hold the power button for 10 sec
3. press home button for 10 seconds, do not release the power button yet

Once I finished step 3 the apple logo on my itouch came on as if I had just turned it on. After the sync with my latest itunes purchases it was ready and rearing to go!

I have a very similar problem, and i want to know if you can help me. I've had my ipod touch 3rd gen, 32 g for over a year. about a week ago, after the battery ran out, i tried to plug it in. mine didnt turn on or charge. my brothers ipod, the same kind, and my cousins iphone worked fine on the same charger, same outlet. the area where the battery usually gets warm when you charge it stays cold. i tried your method above, but it didnt work. please help me if you can!

I am also having a problem with my Ipod Touch. I've had my ipod for a year and a half and i've never had any problems with it. But yesterday when i woke up it was working fine. I put it in my pocket and at about 11:00 am, I pulled it out and it was off. I tried turning it back on but the screen stayed black. I tried pushing every button on it and nothing happened. So when I got home, I plugged it up to Itunes and it still wouldn't do anything. But this might be the cause of my Ipod software being out of date. It's a couple updates behind. Any suggestions?
