Q: Can't delete BBLaunchAgent.app process

I uninstalled the BlackBerry Desktop Manager but I still get a BBLaunchAgent.app process working (0.3% of CPU). I force quit it but then it appears again.

How do I get rid of this problem?

Macbook 13-inch aluminum (2.0 GHz, 2 GB), Mac OS X (10.5.8)

If you didn't use its own uninstaller, you should do so.
If you've already done this, then:

    Look in this location:
    HD>Library>LaunchAgents
for this file or something similar:
    com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist

    and look in this location:
    HD>Library>LaunchDaemons
for this file or something similar:
    com.rim.BBDaemon.plist

If you find either or both of them, trash them and restart.

Is it secure to delete those files like that?

Again, it's always best to use a company's own uninstaller. I'm not sure exactly what you are running, but I just found this Blackberry support page:
[Installing and removing BlackBerry Desktop Software on a Mac computer|http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&exte rnalId=KB18771].
    And this Blackberry forum thread:
[How do you Remove Desktop Manager|http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-for-Mac/How-do-you-Re move-Desktop-Manager/m-p/564538]
You could also contact their Tech support directly.

With regard to moving 3rd-party Launch Agents and Launch Daemons to the Trash yourself and then immediately restarting, I'm not sure what you mean by "is it secure ?" In general it is safe to do this, but I don't myself have a BlackBerry and haven't tried it here. The Uninstall script in the second link above lists a number of other components that should get uninstalled as well, though they probably would not be active without the Launch Agent and Launch Daemon. You should always have a current backup of your entire system on an external drive anyway, as a matter of routine. If you don't have one, I would do this first.

Yeah, I meant if it was safe. Ok, I will follow this steps and I will inform how it went.

    Thanks for your help.

Perfect, I downloaded the uninstaller and it got rid of the application's leftovers.

    Thanks again!

    Hi,

I'm having a similar problem to dumas.  I can't seem to get rid of bblaunchagent or bbdaemon.  I've run the uninstaller and gone through my library to get rid of anything labeled "blackberry" or "bb", yet I still have the both the bblaunchagent and bbdaemon on my Macbook.  What should I do?

According to this threat in BB's forum you can edit the .plist files in order to set the daemon's behaviour.

    Here the Quote:

WARNING!!!:  Don't do this if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about in this response.  I purposefully left out the exact keystrokes required.  If you can't follow what I've written, you should NOT be making these changes.  You need a basic technical familiarity with the UNIX OS and its utilities.  As ALWAYS - BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP before making changes like these.

Using the "Terminal" application within the Utilities folder...

    Went to the directory:  /Library/LaunchAgents

You will find the file:  com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist

Using the native vi editor as root user, opened it and made changes to "OnDemand" set to true and "RunAtLoad" set to false.

You will have to "log out" and "log in" for these changes to take affect.  Killing the BBLaunchAgent process without the log out/in will have no affect, it's already running with the old parameters and the "KeepAlive" will just keep restarting it.  I didn't touch the KeepAlive because I wasn't sure what the affect would be when you have your Blackberry connected.

DISCLAIMER:  At your own risk.  See WARNING above.

I did that and I did it also with com.rim.BBAlbumArtCacher.plist which takes 200mb RAM only because it's there.

    Good luck

You dont need to do all that hurgaaA said. do the following. Make life easier

    Simple....go to HD/Library/LaunchAgents/

and look for com.rim.RimLaunchAgent.plist and delete it. Empty the trash and restart. Do the same for BBAlbumArtCacher.plist. Delete that as well and empty trash, restart and check the Activity monitor. Should be gone. just did it on Lion, Imac - thunderbolt seires

Hello, I'm having this problem as well now. except I've uninstalled it with the disc, and moved EVERYTHING to the trash. But now it say "cannot uninstall BBdaemon because it is still in use". What do I do? I clicked on the Apple sign on the top left corner and clicked on force quite and saw that BBdaemon was not there.
It won't leave my trashcan unless I move it back to desktop. but I want it out !:P

If anyone solved this above and I missed it, I apologize in advance.

    Thank you !

    hello Deenoz94,

you should try metalman213's suggestion and after restarting your mac, retry to uninstall it again:

    Simple....go to HD/Library/LaunchAgents/

and look for com.rim.RimLaunchAgent.plist and delete it. Empty the trash and restart. Do the same for BBAlbumArtCacher.plist. Delete that as well and empty trash, restart and check the Activity monitor. Should be gone. just did it on Lion, Imac - thunderbolt seires

    good luck

Just to say that the solution posted by jsd2 and then again by metalman213 is still working for getting rid of this nuisance crapware in 2013 on Lion 10.7.5. Thanks for the help

I have the same problem. I installed the BB Installer again, then uninstalled, that seemed to remove the BBDaemon, but the BBLaunchAgent.app is still there. I tried to get onto Blackberry's website, and after giving every personal detail short of fingerprints (Why do they need to know what model BB I used two years ago? It was a curve or bend or something) the site had an unexpected problem. They need to send me a confirmation message before I can tell them about the problem, and that does not happen. So I see why RIM's shares tanked.

Which leaves me with the BBLaunchAgent. How do I get it out?

What happened when you looked for com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist in the /Library/LaunchAgents folder, as suggested above ?.

There's a much longer list of files at http://blog.omgmog.net/post/removing-the-blackberry-desktop-software-for-mac-wit hout-having-to-re-download-a-70mb-installer-from-blackberry/

although I suggest locating/removing them using Finder, rather than Terminal.
