Mac Pro RAID and 3TB drives

I have a late 2010 Mac Pro with 4 x 3TB Hitachi drives that work fine as standalone drives but as soon as I plug in the Apple RAID card they show up as 2.2TB drives. It is then possible to build a RAID 5 array but limiting all the drives to 2.2TB

Has anyone been able to configure the RAID card with 3TB drives of any make or model yet?

No.

Apple needs to update RAID firmware.
They work with software.
The Apple RAID card has other downsides.

Yes, but why bother?

Finally, Apple support for off the shelf drives is YMMV or "maybe" they will.

Get 3rd party and go external.

Use your drives but with SoftRAID 4.x instead of Apple software also.
