Auto Join/Login panel missing from WiFi settings tab

I seem to be missing the option to Auto-Join/Auto-login wireless networks.

For reference, here's a screenshot of the two buttons im missing:

This is what I actually see:

I see "Forget my Network" and then the IP Address column. It completely skips out the middle two options.

I have an iPhone 4 running IOS 4.2.1

You do not see this, because your Wi-Fi is not a commercial Wi-Fi network... Some companies require that you have the ability to auto-join and such and not ever have to remember the password (different from the Wi-Fi password key) to connect to their network...

Normally, if you leave Wi-Fi on, it should always try to join your network...

Thanks for the response but I should I have mentioned this in my original post:

Other iPhones (same model and previous) have the option that I do not (and run the same IOS). Same with iPads and iPod Touches.

This is all on the same WiFi network (it is a large college campus network).

In fact, the instructions specifically require that I have the feature disabled. Here are the setup instructions given:

I've already spoken with the helpdesk and it works for everybody else, so clearly there's an issue with my phone.

I'm having the same issue running 4.1 at an AT&T hotspot at work. Co-workers' iPhones (3G, 3Gs & 4 running everything from IOS 4.0 to 4.2) can log in but a few of us are missing the Auto-Login switch and can't use the wifi.

When I call AT&T wifi support they can add my MAC address to the WAP and it works for a day, but the next morning I get the "you must have a coupon" page.

I don't have the option "Auto join" when connecting to an access point/router. It is only when I connect to an ad-hoc network that I have the option "Auto join". One day, I was playing with my router's setting then later found out that my ipod touch is now always asking for the router's key and won't auto join after turning off and on the ipod's wifi.

Here's how I solved it:

When using WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK under wireless security, I choose the option WPA2-PSK instead of WPA-PSK. Voila! After entering the password on the ipod, it now auto connects everytime I turn on the wifi.

Note: I still don't have the "Auto join" option but it does auto connect.

I see a lot of users posting about having this missing auto join and auto login feature on their iPads, but I haven't seen the explanation from anyone. I wish some expert could chime in.

Heres's my experience. I was at a hotel with free wifi. I have an Iphonen4 and an Ipad2. Couldn't get the wifi to connect using the supplied user and password for the network. Called tech support and was directed to go to settings on my phone choose their wifi network and press the blue arrow. That brought up the screen that gave the auto join and auto login options. They appear between the 'forget this network' box and the ip address box. Then I was told to shut off auto log in. That did the trick. The tech then said that he couldn't help me with the iPad because those boxes did not appear. But when I went to my iPad and followed the same steps they were there! He was surprised and I felt like a whiz kid. I connected the iPad to the network and was fine. Unfortunately it was a network that logged users out if the user was idle for a certain length of time. The next day I could not get those boxes to appear again. I tried shutting off, resetting, forgetting the network, shutting off wifi and restarting and nothing made those boxes appear again. Two days later, on a whim, still at the hotel I tried again and voila the darn boxes were back and I was able to join the network again.

So the big question is why would the boxes appear one day and not the next in the very same place while attempting to access the very same network?

Incidentally, now I'm home and neither device gives me those auto join or auto login options.

I, too, am looking for this option. I am a student at a public university where we have a non-encrypted wifi network, but which requires VPN activation to use. I do not want my iPad/iPhone automatically associating with this wireless network. I *used* to have this option set for my university's wifi network, but after having both my iPhone and iPad replaced under warranty, these devices no longer exhibit the desired behavior. (They auto-associate and network connections fail because the VPN is not on.) I would prefer not having to toggle the wifi on-and-off all the time (it's too many menus deep!) and having this "auto-join" function would really help.

Is there an update for this? I'm a helpdesk manager at a small college and one of the student's here has the same issue. My personal iPod Touch has those options available and my wife's iPad has those option's available, but the student with the issue does not have that there. She's running the latest version of iOS and has a fourth generation iPod Touch.

I figured out a possible solution to the original poster's problem with auto-join.

You can set up a configuration profile for each network. I did so by following this: http://nootrix.com/2012/01/prioritize-wifi-on-iphone/

NOTE: in the iPhone Configuation Utility, the box for 'Auto-Join' would continually enable itself once I left the profile no matter how many times I unchecked it. However, once I installed this profile, the option to auto-join shows up on my iPhone in the wireless network settings.

I am in a corporate environment and had the same problem. A few days later I went to show it to our support people, and the boxes were back...both Auto-Join and Auto-Login. The guy next to me with the same iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1 was not seeing them. These are our own devices and were not configured through Configurator. On a whim, I "Forgot the Network" and reattached, then I could no longer see those options either. We then had an iPad that didn't see them. It wasn't iOS 6.1, so we upgraded, and the boxes came back. However, when we "Forgot this Network", they too disappeared. Any ideas?

Well, I just tried the suggestion in that thread, and it did not work for me. However, I still think a certain condition would make those options appear.

I found this thread from a Google search after I noticed those two options appear for one evening in one of my network profiles a couple of days ago. (That night, I had been installing a new airport and configuring a new ipad.) I haven't seen or able to retrieve those settings since. I was starting to think that maybe it could be a one time appearance when you first enter a new network info by the time I read that thread I mentioned before, and thought that might work.

After trying the suggestion with no success, I read another thread about how this guy was trying to access wifi in the hotel he was in, and that at first (when instructed by the tech staff) he was able to find the two options and change one of them off to login. But then the next day, his ipad had lost connection, and the options had disappeared. After a few days of no access, he tried again a day before leaving the hotel, and found the two options had reappeared. I recall that the evening when I saw the two options appear in my ipad, I had to shut-down that particular network (which the two options were associated with) for a long time. I also know that assigned IP addresses have short leases and can expire. So I tried to see if the options appeared after I turned off the network and also after I turned it back on. Unfortunately, I still could not get the options to appear.

Well, that's all I've tried so far. Any new ideas would be appreciated.
