how to sync apps from iphone to itunes without itunes hosing everything?

I have re-arranged a ton of apps into folders /screens on my phone, I transferred them all, did the backup as well but when I go to sync it in itunes I can see the apps in there are not setup like on my phone and it says "all existing apps and their data on the iphone will be replaced with apps from this itunes libary"

I know it wont blow away all of my apps if I sync it but is there anyway to make the phone the master copy so it doesnt screw up all the organization / folders I have done? the last time I sync'd it it blew away all of that and set it like it looking in itunes which I dont want ! having to manually change that back every time is nuts !

I found people complaining about this but I cant find a solution to it 😟

mac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Yes, it is very frustrating.
I believe iTunes is NOT designed for iPhone useres. The iPhone menu is just a patch on an available software.

Why does Apple not care ? I was a fond supporter of Apple, its innovative spirit.

After having recovered a botched installation of iTunes/iPhone on my Win7 I have nothing left on my iPhone, some is due to some mistake on my side, but this whole process is certainly NOT fool (which I am) proof 😟.

Is there a way to VERIFY whether the backup was successful AND complete AND that it correspond 100% to what is on the iPhone ?

How to do a backup of the iPhone data on another support ? Backup of backup !

Cheers

I hate that it does that as well. When I first tried to change computers I lost everything.
Here is one way to backup your backup... it is located under

"C:\Users\*YOUR ACCOUNT*\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup".

Before I do any upgrades or major changes I always backup up phone, than copy the backup file elsewhere and then backup again.

I use goodsync to copy these folder to a hard drive folder I call ITunes Backups

"C:\Users\*YOUR ACCOUNT*\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\"
AND "C:\Users\*YOUR ACCOUNT*\Music\iTunes"

This not only protects your backups but your configurations as well.

Another Option is to download Copybot @ http://www.icopybot.com/

This is a recovery software for ITunes backup files. You can restore all or some of your old backup files.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

I get SO angry EVERY time have to update my phone or sync music my apps always get messed up.

When I transfer purchases from my phone to my comp, it doesn't save ANY of the groupings and locations of my apps. When I select "do not sync apps" it says "do you want to delete all your apps?" *** kind of option is that? If I don't want Itunes to touch my apps, it shouldn't be deleting them. When I select "back up phone" it doesn't change the apps on the screen in the itunes interface. I don't understand why... this is the STUPIDEST mistake ever.

If this isn't addressed, I'm going to ditch the iphone once my contract ends.

I'd rather get a phone with an application that isn't going to delete everything or reformat everything when I get new music or make new playlists.

I was having a problem with this also, so called Apple support. There is a way to transfer your purchases but it is not obvious. Details are on this page:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848?viewlocale=en_US

Essentially:
- connect your phone to your computer
- (windows:) right-click on icon of your phone in the menu on the left;
(mac:) click and at the same time holding down the "control" button on the icon of your phone in the menu on the left
- a little drop-down menu will appear;
- select "transfer purchases" from the menu

Cheers

This is because you are attempting to sync the phone to a computer other than the one it is configured to sync with.

The iPhone was designed to sync with 1 computer. If you sync to the machine it's linked to, this won't be a problem. If you are replacing the machine with a new one, once you have moved your iTunes library to the new machine, you can sync with that one. You will have to rebuild the folders you had, but that's a one time thing.

Do you have the Purchase icon under the iTunes store in the sidebar you should should be able too see it their.

If you click Purchase but can't make out what was last bought try iTunes>View>View options & select purchase date.

Besides i share you a article about how to transfer purchases apps from iPhone to iTunes, which can help you backup all iPhone purchased items to computer.

Hopefully this works for all of you like it just worked for me!
