Converting WPS files

I've just switched to Mac and I'm getting it set up and I've found that the old Dell I was using was saving almost all my files as WPS files and not Word documents and I'm wondering what the best/quickest way to get them to work is. I have both computers going and I'm hoping that there's a quicker way than re-saving every one of my law office's files as a Word document before I transfer them.

My new Mac has Pages '09 on it.

Many thanks

[LibreOffice|http://www.libreoffice.org/download> is a free MsOffice clone and has the ability to open and save WPS files to something more compatible such as .doc.

It has macros which are just automated tasks.

The menu to record the macro is greyed out when I tried it, which could mean several things. That it only works in spreadsheets or I have not done anything yet worth recording. My quick tests did not reveal which.

I suggest you DL it and read up on how to do this for yourself.

Hello,
LibreOffice, Go-oo and NeoOffice can open WPS files and convert them in a more standardized format ( .odt, .doc, ... ) ; however, they can retrieve only the text and the main character and paragraph properties. These free applications are based on http://sourceforge.net/projects/libwps/ which can be relatively easily compiled and installed as a standalone application wps2odt which can be used to convert automatically a bunch of WPS files in ODT files (*).

Other solutions that you may want to test ( see for instance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Works ):
- the free online convertissor : www.zamzar.com/ to see if it gives better result ( some users seem to use this to convert their wps files )
- some commercial solution : MacLinkPlus .

(*) if you want to test this solution and have some problems, feel free to send me a email for directions. As my father has some old mac WPS files to convert, I do some modifications on this library to convert his files, so I know very well how to compile it...

I too have just had all my files converted from my PC to a MAC and can't get the wps files to open...I've read all the testimonies and researched online AND asked the local MAC stores for advice...

I tried Zamzar and everything worked until I opened the new converted doc file and it opened with random coding rather than normal wording (like when it was originally saved as wps)

How do I get past this last and final glitch that's holding me back from having a new legit doc file?

Thanks anyone!
