*Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
*Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
I don't know if it's too late but I solved it by putting my iPod onto a docking station... it might work with FW then...
So I'm guessing this is pretty terminal 😟

'fraid so... 😟

The numbers themselves don't look too bad, but if the drive has trouble initialising on power up that would lead to the [Device Open] Error... That symptom won't get any better. 😟

But if there were driver issues, than my other ipod and my iphone wouldn't work either? Or is there a possibility that it only would cause a problem with this specific ipod?
Not sure you mentioned testing with other devices, but that probably clears both the cable and drivers. I thnik we're down to hardware failure with the I/O port. 😟
tt2
No indeed, my fault, didn't mentioned the other devices.. What is the i/o port and can it be replaced? Thanks!
There are 30 pins, some used in charging, others in data transfer. Yes, no doubt soldered and not at all easy to fix.
tt2
That's some sh*tty news you bring =D. Anyways, thanks for the information and support! Wouldn't have found it otherwise. Did a long search to find someone who could provide these specific answers.
Sorry it isn't better news. 😐
tt2
I'm afraid that looks pretty shot to me. 😟
You may be able to get the hard drive replaced.

Best of luck... I did a headphone jack and hold switch assembly the other day. The tricky bit is getting the case open but there are some good guides at ifixit.com...

my other results were
retracts:28
reallocs:15912
pending sectors : 464
power hours : 101
Start Stops: 31055
temp current 30
min temp 0 max temp 48
That high realloc count, along with the pending, pretty much nails it. The drive is toast. 😟
tt2
what is the best way to repair or replace it
