Mail is deleting messages automatically

Even though the email preferences are set to never delete/remove emails in my Trash in Mail, all my mail older than 1 week is being automatically deleted. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I appreciate all your help!

Have you got more than 1 email account? That preference must be set for each account.

Has it always been like this, or this a change in behaviour?

Thank you for your response. This is a change in behavior. It has never done this before. Only one account is set up.
Are there any other preferences anywhere that I may just not know about that I can change? Thank you!

I have exactly the same issue. I have 4 accounts, two on dot mac and two from my business, all four are using IMAP service. The two business accounts have suddenly stop working correctly (deleting "Trashed" mail after one week even though the setting is set to never delete)

Is your mail account pop or imap (.mac)?

Austin, I can't speak for Melody but I think you can assume it is IMAP, I have this issue with IMAP too. It just started happening but I cannot pinpoint the date (within 3-6 weeks I would guess now).
