Feb 14, 2011 9:45 AM in response to billgertby David Harbsmeier,There are several ways to add filters (effects) to clips in FCE. A few of the methods are:
1. Double-click the clip IN THE TIMELINE to load it into the Viewer. Add the filter by dragging it from the Browser or add it from the Effects->Video Filters menu. Make adjustments as needed to the filter's controls to get the desired effect.
2. Double-click the clip IN THE BROWSER window to load it into the Viewer. Add the filter per the methods above, adjust the filter's controls as needed, then add the clip in the Viewer to the Timeline.
3. Drag the needed filter from the Bowser directly to a clip in the Timeline. Double-click the clip to load it into the Viewer so you can adjust the controls.
Note that some filters will not show any difference just by applying them to a clip; you must make some adjustments.
How are you applying the filter to the clip and did you make any adjustments to the filter's controls?

Feb 14, 2011 10:20 AM in response to David Harbsmeierby billgert,I know of all those methods, and it did work before. But now, when i change the settings in the filter in viewer i cant get a preview of it, and i dont think it attaches to the video. For example, now I want to do a "color correction". I Double click on the clip i want to edit, it turns up in the viewer, I drag the desired effect (Color correction) to the filters-tab in viewer, I change the setting (lighter, Darker) but nothing happens. Its the same with everything, its there, but it doesnt Show...
What do you think could be the problem? -
Feb 14, 2011 4:49 PM in response to billgertby David Harbsmeier,Once you've made the filter adjustments in the Viewer window, hit qq (q twice) to toggle to the Canvas and back. Sometimes the Canvas window just needs a refresh.

I had not worked out how to change or add effects in the time line, by double clicking to get tiem into the Viewer from the timeline.
for the last 4 days I have been putting a clip in the TL, seeing if it was good or not...and if not deleting from the timeline ...taking the clip from the browser again, back to the timeline, editing again and putting back in the timeline.
yes totally new to FC...only been using it for 5 days and have a local 'Young Farmers Club " yearly show to edit down to a DVD...yikes...why the **** do I get myself in to thse situations..jsut cant say NO.
got 5 nights worth of footage from two cameras each camera, each night is about 2.5 hours long give or take camera stoppage due to battery swapping or hittin ght 5D3 29:59 second imit and forgetting to re start the camera.
Not used any video editing program before...had FCE since ....2009 when I bought the machine ..but never plucked up the courage to try thi sapp before...sh* t this is difficult
How woudl I copy the exact filter settings (Sharpness/brightness and contrast) from one clip to the next, so far I am manually adding filters to each clip..then re setting those settings..need some copy past but can't peg down how to do it.
any help appreciated
