m3u or m3u8

so i've been asked to give a company a .m3u file for our audio clips. i think i've figured out how to make a .m3u file if the files are stored locally on my computer, but these audio clips are going to be stored on an online server. so how do i make an .m3u file with files that are online? i can't do this with itunes can i?

Hi Limnos,

Sorry to take you so far back in time with this post.... However I have a similar need to create an m3u playlist (for the antiquated MP3 player built into in my car) I used to use a piece of software called "iTuneMyWalkman" but this no longer runs since Mavericks.

However I do have VLC, but if you have time I could do with an idiots guide how to use VLC to achieve this. (or a pointer to an existing idiots guide)

Many thanks in any case,

David.
