Question

Inbox displays "4294967295"

I use Comcast mail on my iPhone 4 (GSM). While downloading a forwarded email that was taking forever, I stopped the download (the spinning wheel froze) and was able to delete the message. I had to reset the phone to exit the mail application. Now it shows "Inbox 4294967295" when I open mail. New mail sound works but the number of new messages on the home screen does not display the number. I have reset the phone several times but the 4294967292 still appears. How do I get rid of it?

I would suggest removing the email account and mailbox from your phone, reboot, then enter it again.

I don't know if the reboot is needed, but it won't hurt.

Try restoring to factory settings. Make sure to fully restore and do not restore to the backup. Then try going in and adding the account back and see if that works.

Try restoring the iPhone. Removing and readding usually does not work.

I went to the Genius Bar and the tech suggested removing my Gmail account via an IMAP connection and instead using an Exchange connection, and that fixed it. He also ran diagnostics and discovered some other minor problems and that a factory reset (without a restore) could fix it, too, but that it wasn't absolutely necessary.

I have this issue and I have tried both rebooting the phone completely multiple times, as well as restoring the phone from a backup that was made before the problem cropped up, and the issue is still there. Any other ideas?

I was hoping to avoid that hassle. Why doesn't Apple give us a Rebuild Mailbox button like they do on the desktop?
