Q: Youtube won't load

Hi,

I am using a MacBook and have been for just over a year. I am currently using the latest version of Safari. For some reason, over the last week or so it has refused to open Youtube. When i put in www.youtube.com and hit enter, Safari just doesn't do anything apart from shade the address bar slightly to show some progress and also shows as loading, but whatever website I was previously on stays up. As far as I can tell, Youtube is the only website that this happens on.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

MacBook

    Hi and welcome..

Please click My Settings on the right side of this page and tell us which Mac OS X you have installed. Makes it easier to assist you. Thanks!

Make sure your system software is up to date. Click the Apple () menu (top left in your screen) then click: Software Update ...

Try empthing the Safari cache either from the Safari menu bar or Command + Option + E on your keyboard.

Considering it's YouTube, it's more than likely a Flash plugin issue. Troubleshooting help here for that.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately it hasn't solved it though. I'm not sure how it can be a flash issue as the problem is not simply that youtube videos won't load, but that the entire youtube site won't load.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have solved it though. I'm not sure it can be a flash issue because the problem isn't simply that videos won't play on youtube, but that the youtube site won't load at all.

    Any other possible answers?

I am having the same problem. Youtube.com loads just fine, but I get a black screen. I turned on the developers tab and changed it to firefox and it plays, but it will not play under normal settings. I have tried the uninstall/install numerous times already. Its not flash as hulu, daily motion and other sites play just fine. Please help.

I tried this and it worked.

    http://www.youtube.com/html5

join the html 5 trial. bookmark the page if you ever want to leave and/or get it to work with flash.

fyi. not all videos are html5.. most are.

safari must be in 32 bit mode.

go to application folder. right click safari icon. select get info. check the box for "open in 32 bit mode". Reset safari. now all videos should work on youtube.

Been having the same problem with safari for the past hour, switched to the 32-bit mode and worked no problem.

I am still not getting anywhere I'm afraid. Just to reiterate, my problem is NOT that videos on youtube won't play. It is that I simply cannot even open the youtube site. When i enter the address and hit enter all that happens is it shows as if a website is loading but I continue to see whatever site I am currently on.

It doesn't seem to be a flash issue as I can watch flash videos on other sites with no issues. I also tried the 32bit thing but to no avail.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I have to say it's very frustrating not having youtube!

I had the problem of black screens -- which joining the html5 trial didn't fix, but 32-bit mode did.
But the original problem of pculliford -- have you completely reset everything in Safari>Reset Safari...
and emptied the cache? This often works for me if a page stops loading...

system preference > network > advanced > dns tab > click the plus sign + > and add these dns servers: 8.8.8.8 > click the plus sign and add this >
8.8.4.4 > click ok > restart safari > see if it makes a difference.
