Mar 5, 2011 5:59 AM in response to pcullifordby cosmeticMUSiXXX,Really, every time that I use Flash I become more convinced that Apple made the right choice leaving it out of iOS.
Does anyone know of a Safari extension that will convert ~every~ Flash content into HTML5? Sadly I have to use Flash, but if that can be converted…I will be a happier person. -
Mar 8, 2011 11:58 PM in response to cosmeticMUSiXXXby Ciscokid626,Hello everyone, for those of you having problems watching Youtube on your mac try this: While your on Youtube site go to the upper left hand corner and click on Safari then go to preferences>security and place a checkmark on enable plug ins under web content. This should fix the problem with flash videos not working on mac. -
Mar 9, 2011 2:24 AM in response to pcullifordby Cpl BadBoy,Having the same issue with both Google Crome and Safari. Google Chrome videos will play but they are extremely choppy playback. Safari is the black screen.
The only hassle free way of watching YT is through Firefox. My advice sack Safari and Chrome and use FF. To my surprise FF is pretty fast these days and compared to what it was - I havent used it in years-the page rendering is better IMO.
So thats my workaround use FF, It just works, which ironically is meant to be Apples thing aint it?? Unfortunately Safari aint working! I dont have time to sit and change this setting, that setting , flick this switch off and on etc just to watch a YT video. -
Mar 9, 2011 7:06 AM in response to pcullifordby Umbe,Same problem here.
Each time I want to play a YouTube video (from the YouTube console, i.e. not as an embedded object) I get a black screen with no sound. Interestingly, if I reset all the Safari cookies it works again, but only for one video. Then I have to reset cookies again to watch another video and so on. That makes it pretty much impossible to use.
As suggested, will try the switch to HTML5. -
Mar 9, 2011 7:15 AM in response to pcullifordby Umbe,As a follow-up to my previous message, I've switched to HTML5 and still have the same problem. At this point, I guess I'll just wait for YouTube/Flash to find a fix (I believe the problem stands with them). I'll use FireFox in the meantime for YouTube. -
Mar 9, 2011 11:40 AM in response to cosmeticMUSiXXXby Lexi, just go here http://safariextensions.org/ and type in youtube 5 in the search area. It's what I've been using since this whole mess started. The latest update to safari doesn't seem to fix this either. -
Mar 26, 2011 11:54 AM in response to Lexiby Mr Grinch,If you have "Click to Flash" installed, go to Safari>Preferences>Extensions and update it to version 2.1.4 using the Updates button on the lower left side of the window.
This solved the issue for me, I'm still running in 64 bit mode without doing anything else recommended in this thread.
Hope this helps -
Aug 4, 2011 11:23 PM in response to pcullifordby Littleloo2,I do not see any answers to pculliford's question, and I am having the same problem. It's not simply that YouTube videos won't play (although they won't), it's that www.youtube.com won't even load. I have uninstalled and re-intstalled adobe, emptied my cache, re-set safari. Now I am beginning to find that several other pages won't load either. VERY, VERY frustrated. Have tried other browsers (Firefox and Chrome). Still no joy. What is going on?
Not one suggestion in this thread addresses the actual problem.
