My time capsule will not back-up from my computer. It says there is not enough space available yet when I enter time capsule it says there are not any back-ups existing. I have a 500GB time capsule. This started happening 5 months ago and I just turned off the time capsule because I was too frustrated but I am concerned about my backups now as I have added a lot of information on my laptop. How do I free up space on the time capsule and if there is no space, where are the backup files?
MAcBook Pro,
Mac OS X (10.5.8),
Also have time capsule
Since you haven't done a backup in 5 months, you might as well just start over.
Connect via Ethernet if at all possible.
To delete everything on the Time Capsule's internal HD, use +*Airport Utility.+* Select your Time Capsule, then +*Manual Set-Up,+* then
Disks in the tool Bar, then the
Disks tab below it, then
Erase. The "Quick Erase" option will only take a moment.
Then re-select your Time Capsule as the destination, via +Time Machine Preferences,+ and let it do a full backup; that will take quite a while, even via Ethernet..
If there's a problem, don't just ignore it. See [Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time
Machine/TimeCapsule.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum); and/or [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum); and/or post here for help.
Also, remove the check from the +Warn when old backups are deleted+ box in +Time Machine Preferences > Options.+ When the Time Capsule gets full, Time Machine should then delete your oldest backup(s) to make room for a new one.
