Feb 15, 2011 11:20 AM in response to Weird Dadby AnaMusic,Hi,
It's probably advisable to Restore it as a New Phone…
Make sure your Computer is Connected to the Internet.
Connect the iPhone to iTunes… Click on the phone when it shows up… and then Click on Restore and let it do it's thing…
This could take a while… anywhere up to an hour… depending on your Internet Speed. But be patient & best not to interrupt it.
When it's finished it will give you a choice to either Restore from a Backup or Restore as New… Chose Restore as New…
A few minutes later you should have an iPhone that thinks it has just come out of the Box with the Latest iOS 4 2 1
More Details here on Restoring:

And Here's a Link to the iPhone User Guide:

Feb 15, 2011 11:50 AM in response to Weird Dadby sn4p2k,your not going to want to restore from a backup as this will probably bring the itunes account back in -
Feb 15, 2011 12:14 PM in response to sn4p2kby Weird Dad,Sorry for my ignorance here. If I restore as new, will my phone number still be active and working, or will I have to essentially reactivate my phone to have it associated with my account and phone number? -

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how to change the apple ID associated with my iphone. The phone was initially a gift that my ex registered with her account info. Now, I can't update apps without it asking for that particular password and using her account information. I believe she has an iphone now with the same apple ID, so I don't want to screw around with anything. I tried to associate the iphone with my own information in My Account, by registering the serial number of the iphone, but it does not appear to have switched to my account info. Any insight would be great!
Go to Settings/Store and log out. Then log in with a different Apple ID. -

Nov 2, 2011 3:27 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby pollytext, thank you so much lawrence. that's exactly what I needed to know too (due to a typo I've only just noticed on my iPhone). I am so glad I didn't need to do a total restore! phew.

Dec 3, 2011 5:04 PM in response to Lawrence Finchby staceyfromsan francisco,AWESOME, that was easy - thank god i didn't restore my phone as new!! You saved me TONS of time (read: MORE time than I have already spent!). Why can't Apple provide some basic instructions like this themselves?

Jan 16, 2012 12:37 PM in response to Gringotaby Freedomcoach,This discussion has already really helped me. My Mom (91 and not very tech savvy) and I both have a brand new iphone 4s.
After syncing both our phones to my macbook iTunes, I found that my Mom's iphone had my Apple ID on it. Using the method described here in this thread, I was able to log out on her phone and log in to her new Apple ID account. So all is well.
My concern is that if I sync her phone again to my iTunes, it may overwrite her Apple ID again. This should not happen because I understand iTunes treats each iphone separately but I want to be sure.
If anyone here has knowledge about this, please post a response asap. I want to sync my mom's iphone once again before i leave on Thurs to go back to California.
Sincerely,
Howard
