Q: Changing Apple ID on my iPhone

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to change the apple ID associated with my iphone. The phone was initially a gift that my ex registered with her account info. Now, I can't update apps without it asking for that particular password and using her account information. I believe she has an iphone now with the same apple ID, so I don't want to screw around with anything. I tried to associate the iphone with my own information in My Account, by registering the serial number of the iphone, but it does not appear to have switched to my account info. Any insight would be great!

Thanks.

    Hi There,

I was able to change the apple id on the iPhone but on app store still remains the old one. I've restart the phone but it remains. Another good idea?

    Thanks,

Hi guys. I swapped IPhones with my BF because he accidentally smashed my screen. I have played around with backups and managed to swap the information on the phones. In the meantime I copied some apps from his account to mine and vice versa. Now, when I go to update apps it takes me to his ID. I have checked Settings on both Store and ICloud and they both have my correct ID in there. When I buy a new app it all works fine, it's only the updating of old apps that is proving tricky. What do I do? Pls help!

I'm having the same problem as sjmillis.  I have changed the apple ID for the store and in settings but the App prompt still comes up with the old ID and does not allow the option to change it.  Any other suggestions?

Go to Settings / Store / Log out, then log on with different apple ID.

I figured it out.  I had already logged in with the new apple ID but was still getting the prompt for the old ID and password when trying to update the apps.  I realized that any app that was loaded with the old ID would be linked to that ID.  I had to delete the app and reload it with the new ID.  All is good now.

    Thanks

Thanks for putting us all on the right path, but I don't get Log out as an option. When I go to Settings / Store and tap the box  at the bottom of the screen with my Apple ID: (old one), Sign Out is the closest option. Tap that, and then that brings up Sign In. Tap, existing ID (tap) and enter the one you are using at this time.

Btw, this all happened after deciding to use iCloud and for that you need an Apple ID that's an email address. Then it gives you the option of change your Apple ID for the App Store and iTunes to be the same one. You don't have to do that, but that's what I did, and probably a few others who have posted here.

There are 3 steps to changing the Apple ID that appears on your iPhone:

    1. By all means, follow Lawrence's excellent advice:

Go to Settings/Store and log out. Then log in with a different Apple ID.

    2. Check your iCloud Apple ID (Settings/iCloud). If it is different than the one you want to use, go to the bottom of the iCloud settings screen and "Delete Account". Once it is deleted from your phone, you can sign into the Apple ID account of your choice, for use by iCloud.

    3. Finally, any apps purchased using a different Apple ID (even free ones) will haunt you for the password for that ID every time they're updated. Delete them and re-purchase using the correct Apple ID (of course, if they're not free you'll have to decide whether or not they are worth re-spending the purchase price).

    Done.
