Q: Changing Apple ID on my iPhone

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to change the apple ID associated with my iphone. The phone was initially a gift that my ex registered with her account info. Now, I can't update apps without it asking for that particular password and using her account information. I believe she has an iphone now with the same apple ID, so I don't want to screw around with anything. I tried to associate the iphone with my own information in My Account, by registering the serial number of the iphone, but it does not appear to have switched to my account info. Any insight would be great!

Thanks.

What happens to the apps/tunes etc that are currently on your phone if you change your apple id?  Does it effect them or not?

So I set up my own ID account, but have NO idea how to get it onto my phone. So far, im still stuck with all hos contacts and everything i dont want. any help?? (i started with the store thing through itunes, while my phone was synced.. but it just wanted credit card info and things. do i have to put that in to make it work?

    Hi Dawn,

You can start by deleting the iCloud account that is on your phone. You will need your boyfriends Apple/iCloud ID password, because you have to turn off Find My iPhone before you can delete the iCloud account:

Settings>iCloud, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on Delete. Type in the iCloud ID password to turn off Find My iPhone and complete the deletion of the iCloud account. If you want to keep the contacts you have on your phone so that they will sync with your iCloud account then say yes when asked.

Sign back into iCloud with your new Apple ID.

For iTunes & App Store, you can just sign out your boyfriends Apple/iTunes ID. When you are ready to start purchasing things from the iTunes & App Store, you can set up your iTunes account, and sign it on to your device.

Remember, any applications that were purchased under your boyfriends Apple/iTunes/iCloud ID are forever linked to that ID, so going forward, when those apps need to be updated, it will still ask for your boyfriend's password in order to update those apps. If you don't what to have to deal with that, then delete them and re-purchase them under your new ID.

    Best of luck!

    Cheers,

I purchased an IPhone 4 on ebay, did a hard factory restore and the previous users Apple ID stilll shows up after it boots back up again. Even though I do not have the previous Apple users info, there is not another way to get this guys info off this phone? How is it still retaining his Apple ID?

    Hi TxOutlaw21,

Sorry - no way around it. This is the iOS 7 Activation lock. The current person signed onto iCloud with Find My iPhone turned on will remain on the device until they either turn off Find My iPhone, or wipe the device via iCloud.

I would recommend that you return it to the seller on eBay. You are currently the proud owner of a brick....

    Sorry,
