Motu 896 don´t work

Got a new MacPro. Installed all the dirvers and latest updates. (OSX 10.6.6. latest motu driver and latest Logic 8 version)

When changing the audio interface logic (as well as garage band) freezes upon initializing. I´m using a FW 400 to FW 800 adaptor. (it also happens when I daisy chain the interface with a FW800/400 drive) The interface is recognized by the driver and audio-setup. (Although there were problems too in the beginning) Started also with 32bit kernel but that didn´t help.

Is this the original 896, 896HD or the 896mk3?

Yes it´s the original. They do work fine with my Intel MacBook wich has the same software status.

Hi! My Motu 896HD is not connecting to my MacPro either - After installing the recent osx updates I get a warning in system profiler that says 'Unable to list firewire devices'. I've bought a new cable - tried different ports - done the PRAM thing - Factory reset the Motu - Switched it all off & waited half an hour -switched it back on (of course) - Repaired disk permissions - emptied my caches & prayed a lot (as well as cursed a lot) - If You Or Anyone out there knows how to fix this problem I'd Love to know how you did it?!

my 896HD works perfect with my Mac Pro and always has. which Mac OS are you on? I am on 10.6.6. check with MOTU and see if there is a firmware update for the 896HD. you might want to try dragging the Audio/Midi preference file to the trash (do not empty) and restart your mac, with the 896HD connected and on, and see if that helps

Hi Thank You for responding! I'm on 10.6.6. - I've checked with Motu & they've not got a firmware update as yet but I've put in a tech support request & am waiting. Regards the Audio/Midi preference file you mentioned - do you mean the Audio/Midi Setup folder in utilities or another location?

after thinking about this, let me ask...

is the 896HD connected firewire directly to the mac? or are you daisy chaining?
did you test the firewire port with another device like a hard drive to make sure it works?

the preference file is in, User>library>preferences>com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist

Has anyone had success in resolving this issue? 10.6.6 has disabled my 896 too. Initially it wouldn't be recognised at all (stuck on flashing lights) - so I intalled the latest drivers from MOTU - the 896 now shows up as a device, but launch any audio app - quicktime / logic / even just trying to preview audio in finder - they all induce the spinning colour wheel and I have to force quit the apps & finder.

Desperate for a solution, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi - The 896HD IS directly connected to the mac - the FireWire port works fine with other devices - I'm not daisy chaining & have tried your suggestion to park the AudioMIDIsetup.plist file in the Trash & still no change. 😟 - I have contacted Motu Support who have responded very quickly and have asked if I've reset the device & if the FireWire port is working - I've told them I've carried out the necessary maintenance and am now awaiting another response from them hopefully with a fix!

It's a Nightmare! As soon as I get a Fix from Motu - I'll post it on the forum - In the meantime - if you get a fix - Please let us know! 🙂 .

I have had another response from Motu - Who believe that my 896HD is at fault. I shall be testing the device on another system soon - just to make sure & will confirm if it's a hardware fault or a software issue.

ich habe genau das gleiche problem wie du....
ich habe den mac 10.x6.6 und einen Motu 896.
Und seit ich die neue version von Mac habe funksioniert mein Motu nicht mehr
hast du neues gehort von die Firma Motu...
bitte sage mir wenn es bei dir jetzt klappt.oder was du schon versucht hast.
