"photos" in Library Inspector not showing most images

"photos" in Library Inspector not showing most images

I have about 21,000 images.
They show up fine in a smart album set to "show all".
They show up fine in smart albums set to various other criteria.
They also show up correctly in the projects.

I was working on re-key-wording some images and have a difficulty I haven't had before.

The problem is that when I select "photos" in the Library inspector, only about 900 images show up. The filter is set to show all. If I set the filter to other criteria, only a subset of the 900 shows up.

I have repaired permissions, repaired the database, and reset the user preferences.
Searching the forum with various keywords, I didn't find any relevant posts.

thoughts?

Fishing ...

. How many Projects?
. How many images in the biggest Projects?
. Any non-standard characters in any of the Project names?
. Any items anywhere in Aperture which start w. a period or a non-standard character?
. Do all your Projects show in Projects view?

OK try this. Select any of your smart albums does't mater which. Click the magnifying glass to open the search HUD. Now leaving that HUD open click on the Photos icon in the Library.

Clear any settings and set the HUD to show all your images. Close the HUD you should be back to normal.

The problem is solved by the technique in the next post.
FYI- answers:
projects- about 450
biggest project - about 200 images
no non-standard characters
no items starting with a period or non-standard character
all of my projects were showing in project view.

I had a similar problem with a new library which I created by Relocating Masters. I tried to clear the filter for the Photos folder using Frank's technique but nothing appeared. I then set a filter using Frank's basic technique and pictures meeting the filter parameters appeared. The moral...keep experimenting.
