I purchased my iPad in the UK but will be working in South Africa for next 3 months. A week ago, my unit developed a problem - cannot connect to wifi networks. The local iPad dealer here in SA confirms the unit is faulty and I am entitled to a warranty replacement. However, he says I need to return it to the Apple Store in the UK where I bought it.
Can anyone advise if there is a better way to do this?
I'm not going to be in the UK again anytime soon. I guess I could ship it but would prefer not to.
Thanks.

If the iPad has been released in SA (my web search says yes), then you should be able to get it replaced at an Apple Store is SA. Is the place you went to in SA an authorized dealer? I would contact AppleCare and ask them what to do.
Nope. If you bought an iPad outside of South Africa, there is NOTHING you can do. You have to take it back to the point of origin where you purchased it. Core Group -- one of the local distributors -- will definitely NOT exchange any Apple product that is not bought through them -- and I speak of this personally.
You will have to ship the item to the UK and have them send you back a replacement -- quite a costly exercise in postage.
