Restrictions Passcode

In an attempt to make an in app purchase, I received a message to change my restrictions under settings, restrictions. Restrictions are enabled (which I never knew existed) and asked for a passcode. Is there a generic passcode? If so, what is it? If not, what steps do I take to retrieve this phantom passcode? I have one failed attempt because I tried 0000. How many attempts do I have? There are only 6,561 options.

Is there a generic passcode?

No. If you can't remember your restrictions passcode, you will have to restore your phone as a new device, not from backup, to remove it. All data on your phone will be lost.

So, how was this passcode set?

You or someone had to set the restrictions passcode. It is not something that can be accidentally set.

And will I be able to set my own after restoration?

Yes. As provided, if you can't remember the restrictions passcode, you will have to restore as a new device, not from backup. The restrictions passcode is included in the iPhone backup, thus restoring from backup will continue to restore the restrictions passcode.

i am having the same issue. I have just updated my ipod touch from 3.x to 4.2 in order to match the OS of my new iPhone. After the update was complete I found that the Restrictions were now enabled and was promoted to enter a pass-code that I do not know. As this device was coming from OS 3.x it did not even have the restriction services so no pass-code could have been entered.

I tried my one and only pass-code that I use for my iphone, thinking it some how got transposed onto the ipod. no luck.

.. .stumped and locked out.

please advise.

I found that mine was a code I would normally use, I managed to get up to attempt 9 before getting right a few people say that 10 attempts is the limit but all I know is the more you attempt the more time between each try (eg. 3 attempts - 1 minute ,4 attempts - 5 minutes, 6 attempts 10 etc etc). Try and think of a 4 digit number you use for everyday things like pin numbers or birthdays it may be that you orignally put one of those in.
