'Mute Track Sections' Feature Needed

You should be able to RIGHT-CLICK on a part in the timeline and select mute, rather than having to completely delete it.

while there is no right-click method, you needn't delete it. use a volume automation curve to set the volume to -144 for the section you don't wish to hear.

after pondering a bit...

you can make your own one-click solution very quickly:

duplicate the track, and drag the "offending" region into it. now you can use the mute button on that track to enable/disable the region for playback
