Canon Selphy CP780 Printer Driver
Any suggestions on how to get the Canon Selphy CP780 driver to show up on the printer driver list so it can be selected?

Based on many frustrating conversations with Canon's technical support, and months of attempting to solve this problem, it seems that that Canon's CP780 driver for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard does not work with a case-sensitive HFS+ file system.
Although you can install the driver and the printer is recognized, you cannot press the "Add" button in order to add the printer - the "Add" button is permanently grey and cannot be pressed.
As I noted, I have been in contact with Canon over a period of months and they were unable to resolve the issue. They kept having me uninstall and reinstall the driver, unplug and re-plug the printer, etc.. Nothing worked. The driver does not work with a case-sensitive HFS+ file system.
It may be possible to work around the problem somehow by creating symbolic links or some other method, but I have not been successful so far.
For anyone who has "helpful" suggestions like plugging the printer in, installing the driver, etc., before you post could you confirm that your technique actually works with the CP780 and Snow Leopard, and can you also post what kind of file system you are using? My experience has indicated that Canon's CP780 driver for Snow Leopard does not work with a case-sensitive HFS+ file system.
Also, as of early August 2011, the CP780 driver has not been updated for OS X Lion and refuses to install on that OS.
That is a response from Canon about CP780 compatibility with Lion:
I do apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused. Looking at
my resources, unfortunately, the CP780 will not be compatible with the
Mac Lion OS. Once again, I do apologize for the inconvenience.
I bought a printer Canon CP780 1.5 year ago and all work fine with Snow Leo. Nothing work anymore with Lion.
So I wrote to Canon and ask when they plane to launch new driver and here is the response :

Dear Michaël:
Thank you for your inquiry regarding Macintosh OS X Lion driver or Linux
drivers for the SELPHY CP780 and SELPHY CP720. We value you as a Canon
customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
Unfortunately, OS X Lion drivers or Linux drivers for the SELPHY CP780
and SELPHY CP720 are not planned.
While considering the desire to provide the best possible support for
Canon's current products in a timely manner, Canon must make decisions
on which products to support when new operating systems are introduced.
These decisions are generally based on the age of the product and the
number of product estimated to be still in use.
Yet if the decision is made to support a product, the development of new
drivers must be prioritized on basically the same "need" criteria. This
is why some drivers are not available until some time after a new
operating system is introduced.
Currently, Canon has decided to support only the Microsoft Windows and
the Macintosh operating systems. We understand, and sincerely apologize
for the frustration you have experienced if your product falls into
either of these categories (no driver support or no immediate driver
support) or if you are using another operating system, but hope that you
will understand our rationale.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we can
be of any further assistance with your SELPHY CP780 and SELPHY CP720.
Thank you for choosing Canon.
Sincerely,
George

Ah poop, I did run into this: http://homemadebytes.blogspot.com/ on installing a selphy printer for Snow that may work.
that sems to be a good way to follow...
After reading the way Canon has decided (in the letter above and in their many Tech support comments) to drop all future support of their Selphy CP780 photo printers to new Apple OS 10.7 (Lion) users and future customers - I think Canon Printer Development management and higher C level personnel - should be reminded that they missed one additional cost in their calculation - when they decided to drop Apple 10.7 user support.
That simple one-line item they missed is - LOST SALES of the many, many other Canon items - that won't be sold to ******-off Apple users - in the future.
I was such a Canon Camera and Printer user (many items). But now after this experience - I'm voting with my wallet and telling everyone in my family and circle of friends to boycott all Canon products.
Let the lesson be driven that Marketing Hype about "Importance of Customer Satisfaction" be driven - not by Marketing Hype and shallow words but by real actions and demonstrations of commitment with real customer support.
I totaly agree with you.
My printer is now a clipboard.
I will try this tonight...
I tried this myself. It installs, the SELPHY software recognizes the printer. However, one thing I noticed is that when you print borderless, the image is enlarged larger than it should.
