Won't Play videos on youtube

Hey all,
My Safari won't play youtube videos, yet if I open the same link in google chrome, it plays fine. I've restarted, uninstalled/reinstalled safari, and it hasn't helped. I though maybe it has something to do with disabling java, but all the options are still checked. I never changed anything, so I'm a little confused as so why this is happening. Any info you have would be great.

I have been trying to fix my mum's macbook 4,1 and have done everything that you have said to do and it still doesn't work

I'm having the same problem however, I'm using Chrome. I can watch YouTube videos on my wife's iMac but get the stop start video on my MacBook. Firefox doesn't have any problems. I don't bother with Safari.

I cannot find "changing from 64-bit to 32-bit" under the "General" heading. I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.8. Is that why it doesn't show?

I was having the same problem, suddenly black box on youtube vids, unable to play them. I was able to solve the problem by checking the 'software updates,' pulled down from the apple icon, top left. Installed the updates, and now all is well. Easy! Hope this helps someone!

Reinstalling Flash won't do the trick, so don't waste your time. If anybody comes up with the solution, please HELP!

Add me to the list. On my Snow Leopard, MacBook Core 2 Duo, updating Flash didn't work, nor did setting Safari to run 32-bit.

Meanwhile, my wife's Core (not 2) Duo MacBook runs Youtube just fine with the very same software.

This worked for me but I had to deselect 32 bit and now my videos work!

Here is what i found. youtube is trialing HTML5

go to this link and opt out of the trial. I found all my videos work now.

THIS is the answer. All better now. YouTube isn't doing a very good job with HTML5...

Can you help me fathom this out. A few days I have had the very same problem on my macbook pro. I can't play youtube videos in either Firefox or Safari, I kept getting that **** error message "Flash player has crashed, refresh the page and try again" but it doesn't work. I have uninstalled the Flash player and unpdated to the latest, but still have the problem. NOw I don't get a error message just the blank black screen. I went to the youtube Html5 trial page that you suggested but there is no one to opt out of the trial and actually at the bottom of the page it says :

"You are not currently in the HTML5 trial."

Don't know what else to do to fix this. I am on OS LION 10.7.3, I'm running safari 5.1.5 and Firefox is 11.

Incidently, vids work fine on my imac it is just my macbook pro with the problem.
