Upgrading a Powerbook G4 from 10.3.4 to 10.4

I know just slightly more than nothing about Macs but I have a customer that tried to upgrade his laptop to 10.4 and now it won't boot up and he can't find his restore disks.
Now, before I start groveling I would like to thank everyone that tries to help with this problem.

Hi Randy,

No easy solution without knowing more about the PBG4. Getting a set or original restore discs for that model may be harder than getting the customer to bring in their Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) DVD.

But first, which PBG4 is it ?
Are the ports on the back (behind a flap) ? or on the sides ?
Is there anything to identify the model on the bottom of the unit ? it may be under the battery.

if we identify the model we can establish if the specs are adequate to run OS X 10.4.

Maybe the most important thing you can ask the customer is if they backed up everything on the PBG4.

Hello Randy,

First of all, Welcome to the Apple Discussion forums!

A couple other questions for which the answers might help, along with those asked by Simon above, would be:

1. Were the 10.4 Tiger discs used for the upgrade full retail install discs or machine specific discs from another computer?

2. By "it won't boot up" do you mean that the computer will not startup at all or that it only boots up to a blue or grey screen and doesn't fully boot up?

3. What OS version was your customer trying to upgrade from?
