Resize/rescale photos to fit frames in book?

I'm working on a book, and I've successfully cropped and otherwise edited photos for placement. However, the one thing I can't figure out how to do is to resize (I mean dimensions, not file space) photos to fit the frames. When I place the photos, it is as if they are actual size, and possibly only a head appears within the frame in the book. Sometimes I would like to be able to place larger photos in smaller frames to have multiple pictures per page, but I would like the entire photo (a rescaled version) to appear in the frame, not one aspect of the photo. Ideally I would like a "size to fit" option. Short of that, I'd like to be able manually to adjust the size of the photos to fit the frames. Is this possible?? I haven't been able to figure out how to do it.

Thanks --

Right click on a photo *(in most themes)* and select fit to frame to eliminate cropping and use white space fill

Note the bold statement in my instructions - if that command is not available in the theme you are using they you will have to use a different theme - you can change themes at any time by going to themes in the tool bar at the bottom and selecting a new theme

As far as I know the availability of this option by theme has not been documented but if you search the forums you will find people who had had the problem and changed themes and then could "fit to frame"

Your question is not clear - photos automatically fill the frame which is in a 4:3 ratio - if the photo is a different ratio then some of it will be cut off but in at lease one dimension the entire photo will be there -- if you are not seeing this A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

Ideally I would like a "size to fit" option.

You also can use the zoom and pan controls above each selected photo to control what part of the photo is showing in the frame

Thank you for your suggestions. I'm still struggling. I did remove the com.apple.iPhoto.plist from Preferences but can't tell a difference. When I right click over the photos, I can see an option to "fit photo to frame size" (which is precisely what I want to be able to do), but the option is greyed out, so I can't select it.

Yes, it's true that the photo does fit into the frame, and I can move the photo around to show a certain part of it, but the photo is significantly larger than the frame, so much so that only a tiny portion of it (like a head) is visible (even if I use the zoom tool--it's already on the smallest setting), when what I want is for the entire photo to be visible in the frame--a proportionally reduced image....
