iPad and iPhone not listed in iTunes

hello all ...

I have recently a weird problem ...
*when i connect my iPad or iPhone, it will not list under "DEVICES" in iTunes (10.1.2).*
System-Profiler tells me though that an iPad is connected via USB and strangely both devices are listed in iTunes on my iMac ....
some messed up preference file?
or anybody solved a similar problem?

#Update
just deleted the "com.apple.iTunes.plist" and unhooked all USB devices with only the iPad connected directly into the USB port ::: *didn't work*
#

BIG thanks in advance for all helpful inputs!

If your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or iPod nano (5th generation) is not recognized in iTunes on a Mac, you might need to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service. Find instructions here, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
