Wi-Fi connection strength/speed

If I move my wireless router nearer to my iPad usage location, will this increse the signal strength or the download speed? I mainly use my iPad in my bedroom and the wireless router is in my brother's room about 50 ft. away.

Will moving the wireless router in my room increse download speed on my iPad as the signal strength increases?

Almost always this is correct, but there are many factors here. That said how many bars do you see?

A great application to get from the iTunes store before you start running cable is
Speed Test found here http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/speedtest-net-mobile-speed/id300704847?mt=8

Get that and then you can test the speed both from your room and then from your brothers room. That will tell you very quickly if it will increase your speed.

When the WiFi signal strength is sufficient so that retransmissions are not necessary to correct reception errors then there is no speed benefit in further increasing the signal strength.

As has been suggested, if you think that download speed is a problem, then get a transmission speed measurement app like Speedtest.net which is available in the app store.
