I am trying to install some programs on my mac and its says that i need to upgrade my os version because the program is not supported with my os version..

What programs are you attempting to install?

You may need to upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.*) before those applications you want to install can be installed. Snow Leopard costs $29 for the regular upgrade.

If you are looking for another update but the automatic software update does not want to find it you can look for it here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/

I have tried to install Xcode and iOS SDK (xcode3.2.5_and_ios_sdk_4.2final.dmg).. i have downloaded it from apple..

so, if i want to upgrade my software to run those programs i need to buy the upgrade to snow leopard 10.6?

If it requires Snow Leopard then you would need to. If it does not require at least Snow Leopard then you would not need to. Check for the application requirements out of Google to see if you can find exactly what Operating System is required of it.
