iphone4, iOS 4
Hello, I've been trying to COMPLETELY delete unwanted apps, but these steps (followed) don't fully do the trick as far as I can tell. I know the right click/delete, and the small "x" in the upper left corner. That works partially. They do appear gone from the Library App section.
When I then go to my itunes Store/Account page, the apps I thought I deleted are now shown in a section called "Hidden Apps", which I am unable to completely delete. The apps shown in this hidden section do not allow for right clicking, and there is no little delete "x" in the upper corner.
I would like to completely remove/delete these unwanted apps. Is this possible???
Thanks for any help in advance!
[I'm adding to this discussion just to verify my understanding.]
I have a MacBookPro, an iPad, and an iPhone. I'd just as soon not involve iTunes in syncing apps: the iPad and the iPhone seem perfectly capable of updating apps through the App Store via Wi-Fi. Removing iTunes from the picture would certainly simplify and speed up Wi-Fi sync.
(It should be noted, I already have Contacts, Calendar, Bookmarks synced via iCloud, so I've removed those from iTunes also.)
When I go about unchecking apps from iTunes sync, iTunes threatens to delete the apps from the target device. Okay, I reckon I could live with that *once* and then download the apps again from the App Store (grr...). If I were to do it this way, would it provide the desired result (i.e., take iTunes forever out of the process, no further harm, allowing me to keep apps updated via the App Store)?
You rock. Thanks !
Any answers to this question? I want to delete my Hidden Apps completely, I know I have to log into my account to see them there, but I want them gone! There seems to be no way of removing them from my account. When I buy stuff in the traditional way I can at least chuck it in the garbage when I am through with them!!
What you are actually asking to do is erase your purchase history. You can't do that. You can't not have bought what you bought. You can only hide it in your purchase history and then it will not longer bother you with updates. It is the same with any account, with any merchant. There will always be a record in the merchant's system, as well as, in the bank system of any bank card used in a transaction.
but if you buy a book for example from a store, say with cash, then bin it - you then completely get rid of it surely?
DId you find your answer. The answer is no.
You can cut the iTunes app on your computer out of the picture for the most part, but the iTunes and Apps apps on your iOS device are just apps that access iTunes. And it isn't a good idea to cut the iTunes app out of the picture completely because its media and apps content libraries may be useful to you in the future as backup. Apple states pretty much every time that you acquire content that you should back it up. Nothing available to you from Apple is guaranteed to always be available from Apple. If Apple stops offering an app in the iTunes App Store, then you hopefully have a physical backup of it somewhere in your iTunes apps library on your computer or it is gone forever, unrecoverably, if your iOS device gets erased for whatever reason.
Surely, but if you paid for it with your bank card, there would be a record of it. Which is more similar to this situation, because you can't buy anything on the internet with cash really and not have an electronic record.
