Apple MI-5 video poor compared to Netflix version

I note that Apple TV-rented streaming videos of the popular UK series MI-5 (known as Spooks in the UK) look like over-compressed trash next to streaming Netflix versions of the same series, played through the same Apple TV box. Color space is also off on the Apple TV stream. C'mon, Apple! You can do better.
