and.... this morning when I used the Nano with "Double-Click" OFF, the music stopped again when the Nano went to sleep.

So I had to configure "Double-Click" ON, "Play/Pause" ON, then when the music stops, double-click to restart it.. and the screen stays off but the music plays.

Definitely not working logically. When an update comes, I'd definitely NOT want this functionality at all.

It sounds like the "sleeve" actually slipped down a bit. Were these the headset that came with the Nano or an older pair? Was at an Apple headset?

Hello, i'm trying this combination, but for me things goes like this:

    - Sleep/Wake button:

    "Double-Click" is ON:
    1. "Play/Pause" is selected.
When screen goes to sleep, music goes off. Double-click to turn on

    2. "Next Track" is selected.
When screen goes to sleep, music goes off.

    "Double-Click" is OFF:
When screen goes to sleep, music stays on.

Everytime when the screen goes to sleep, music goes off too... =(

To all iPod nano users who encountered this problem, please have patience to read this thread, it can help you a lot solving this small problem, same as you I am also facing this problem, i bought my iPod nano two days ago and also updated the 1.1 version, and right after that my iPod doesn't work nicely, it stop when dim light appears, and i decided to open this forum and discussions and patiently reading all your comments and suggestions, and found out the solution, its so SIMPLE, its all about the HEADSET Indeed, its just about the HEADSET. Take the risk, put it on harder(HEADSET) till you hear the click sound means it fits inside and thats it, you can use it for hours as you like:)

I was having the same problem while I was listening to e book.
After I read your suggestion to plug the headset all the way in. I started enjoying a continuos e.book listening..
I think the design compatibility issue, specially when you use the nano in the wrist watch band.

    Thanks For you input.

I used my Nano for a 5K race yesterday, it was the first time I ran with it. I could not get it to stay on. I had downloaded the updated software, maybe that is why it won't stay on. How do I undo this download? I am so disappointed I bought this product.

Tried the headset that was packaged with it. It turned off before the first song was over.

I know that you have tried it. Plug the headset in harder. Make sure the base of the plug is not blocked by anything or that the sleeve around the base (What you hold on to when you plug it in) has not slid down a little bit, keeping it from going in all the way.

I know it sounds ridiculous and know you are sure you have it plugged in all the way. Just give it another try. You would be AMAZED by how many people were sure it was plugged in all the way, only to discover it was not quite in as far as it could go.

Very interesting. By the way, this is not headset related for me. Apple headset has the same "functionality" as the Monster Cable I use. Both jacks are plugged in fully.

Hi guys, thank you very much it was the earphone, which was not fully pluged in.
    The problem is solved now

This can happen with ANY headset - including Apples. If the plug is not fully inserted, this will happen as folks are describing it.

I'M ALSO having this same problem, i've plugged the ipod headsets in as hard as i possibly can [ i'm using the original apple ones]. but still to no avail! could a short in headphone cords also cause this problem? i don't believe i have one, but anythings possible....

So when the screen on your Nano goes dark, your music pauses?

The only reason your nano would pause your music when the screen goes dark is because it has not detected that a headset is fully plugged in. By "original apple ones" are you talking about the ones that came with it, or an older pair?

You know the plastic part that you grab to insert the headset plug? Make sure that the plastic part has not slid down. If it slides down, it shortens how much of the plug can be inserted and prevents it from getting fully inserted.
