I have some books on my Ipad that I want to transfer to my Itunes library. When I right click on my Ipad in Itunes and select transfer purchases the books do not transfer. Any idea how i can fix this?

Thanks.

Mac OS X (10.5.8), none

Did you purchase the books from iTunes? From another place like Audible.com? Amazon?

Purchased from iBook store. I went to IBooks and redownloaded it but still could not transfer it.

Is the computer authorized for the iTunes account that purchased the books?

    Yes, it is authorized.

Why don't you just do a sync to to iTunes? The books should show up in the books section of iTunes after that. Sync instead of selecting transfer purchases.

Itunes says if I do a sync, then all purchases on the Ipad will be removed and content from Itunes will be copied to the Ipad. Since the book is not in Itunes then it would be lost

If you purchase a new app, game or whatever, directly downloaded to your iPad, ... when you sync to your computer, the sync transfers the purchase to your iTunes library. That's how they get in your iTunes library via the sync process - correct?

Have you synced to a different computer with this iPad previously? I may be missing something else, but content from the iPad is transferred to the iTunes library when you perform the sync.

    Select the iPad in iTunes.
    Then File > Transfer purchases.

But the OP saidin his original post that it did not work:
"I have some books on my Ipad that I want to transfer to my Itunes library. When I right click on my Ipad in Itunes and select transfer purchases the books do not transfer. Any idea how i can fix this?"

Thanks. Missed that little bit (out of the whole 3 sentences )

Thank you for all the help and suggestions, I really appreciate it and probably should have supplied this information at the start. Kind of hard to diagnose a problem when all you have is a temperature and none of the blood work.

Problem solved....sort of. Here is the situation. I have 32bit Itunes on my XP desktop and 64 bit Itunes on my Vista laptop. My Vista Itunes points to my desktop Itunes media file. Something got confused along the way and Itunes and I got confused over which is which. I now have things pointed to where they should be and the books are ok. BUT....there are a lot of apps on the Ipad that are not in Itunes. When I sync the Ipad the first thing that happens is a backup. Itunes then says that there are purchases on my Ipad that are not in Itunes, do I want to move them? I say yes, Itunes says it is moving them, then completes the sync, but when all is said and done, all the apps are not in Itunes.
    Any idea why?

So, this was the most helpful thing I've found yet about copying content FROM my iPad to iTunes. Thanks Chris CA. Just out of curiosity, is there a way to be selective about this? I'm looking to copy PDF's I've saved on my iPad to iTunes on my PC, the transfer option copied everything, including apps and such.

No, you cannot select what you want to copy.

Copy then delete if you must but having it on the computer is a good practice for if the phone crashes.
