Q: Mac AppStore won't even start today!

I was a happy user of mac appstore. I did not use it often, but from time to time. May be once a week.

If I click the icon to start it, it bounces for a while, and then stop bouncing. That's all it does. See the video below.

Is there a solution for this?
Can anyone explain why this is happening?

Macbook Pro 15, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

    Hi,

Quit the Mac App Store if it's open. From the menu bar App Store / Quit App Store. Or Command + Q on your keyboard.

Launch iTunes then from the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Advanced tab.

Click: Reset warnings and Reset cache.

Now from the iTunes menu bar click Store / Sign Out.

    Try the Mac App Store.

If you still have problems, follow the paths here.

~ (Tilde) represents your Home folder.

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist files to the Trash.

~/Library/Cookies. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist and Cookies.plist files to the Trash.

Restart your Mac. Try the MAS.

If nothing has helped reinstall the MAS by downloading and installing the v10.6.6 combo update available here.

Trash the com.apple.appstore.plist file and restart your computer.

    Hi,
I recently experienced the same issue, after restoring my wife's MB from a Time Machine backup. I've tried resolving following exactly the same steps. Even though I could not reinstall 10.6.6 because we have Snow Leopard 10.6.7 installed...

Could not even find the com.apple.appstore folder in the Library?

I could use som serious help, coz Mac App Store will not start, and it worked fine, before my wife's hdd crash..

Same situation for me.  Trashing the com.apple.appstore didn't work, removing files as suggested by Carolyn didn't work, and I can't install the 10.6.6 update because I'm up-leveled from that.

I can live without the app store, but it's just a pain that I can't uninstall/reinstall it from scratch...

Apple won't help you if you're not under Apple Care... even though the App Store was just launched recently. So now I have apps purchased on my MacBook Pro that I can't get on the same account on my iMac. Pretty useless if you ask me.

I've tried deleting the Library files listed in various threads but nothing. I managed to squeeze out of the tech at Apple Care (before he all but hung up on me) that I should try deleting the App Store and then reinstalling the 10.6.7 combo. That didn't work. Now I don't even have the App Store on my machine.

    Thanks Apple!

You might try creating another user account on the iMac and seeing if it works there.

I have been having a problem with trying to update an app using my default user but nothing happens when I try to update and I can't view my account under the store window or sign out. However, if I use an alternate user account, I can update the app so it can't be the App Store app, must be some of the user specific info in my default home folder. I tried deleting all the files that Carolyn suggested with no success but realized that I overlooked the Cookies.plist in ~/Library/Cookies. Doing that got rid of my account in the App store but I still can't sign in. I have been running 10.6.7 since the day it came out and I think a previous update worked under 10.6.7.

Thank you CMCSK but I don't live in the US. I've called Apple on multiple occasions about this but I get nowhere. As soon as they get my iMac's serial, they're done with me. My iMac was a year old in January and no, I didn't purchase the extended Apple Care. Regardless, I think Apple should offer better support on a product like the Mac App Store which was installed on my computer via Software Update. Now I've got this broken, useless app as a result of keeping my OS current.

After trying all the things described in my previous post, my problem was solved by a simple restart of my computer.
