Where is my SYSTEM PREFERENCES?

I am a little new to the iMac and left for vacation. When I returned and tried to open up my system preferences, only two things show, Browser Plus and Growl. What happened? How do I get everything back? I hope this is a simple fix. HELPUser uploaded file

you could try this:

(a) download the [_*Mac OS X v10.6.6 Update Combo*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1349]
(b) reboot into _*safe mode*_
(c) launch *disk utility* (in applications/utilities), +verify disk+ and +repair permissions+
(d) run the combo
(e) after running the combo, let the Mac reboot normally and +repair permissions+ again.

Hi, I have a similar problem to fishrman, my System Preferences is not opening since I updated my iMac to Yosemite 10.10.4. When I try to open it I get the message "the application system preferences is not open anymore".

When I go into MacintoshHD -> Library -> Cache I don't see the com.apple.preferencepanes.cache file.

Do you know of another way of rebooting System Preferences?
