tomtom & distracting system messages

Hi while using my iphone4 with tomtom I am getting 'cannot activate cellular data' messages at times when the phone briefly goes out of coverage. The trouble is these are distracting - and it is dangerous to have to click on the screen while driving to dismiss these messages. Tomtom support say they cannot stop these from inside the app - how can they be turned off please? Best regards Tim
