Macbook Pro (2010) 16gb memory

I have Applecare still in effect on mine... maybe a support session is in order.

Worth a try but I don't know how far you'll get. It isn't a problem with anything as specified by Apple so i don't see them even entertaining such a discussion. Let us know.

I wanted to get a Macbook Air but they only put that much RAM in them when you get the "low-end" models at 17" on up. If I wanted a portable desktop, I've just got an iMac. Never understood why they don't want to offer the same RAM and drive storage across the board.

I agree though ... this thread has now been out so long that all we have left to do is down one another's hardware. I guess we need to close this one off.

Why does everyone think that just because a Macbook does not have a drive-In Movie size display, that it is a "low-end" model? Seriously? When a notebook gets to be 15 and 17 inches in display size, they ought to revive the term "laptop". It's not really that portable anymore. It's a "desktop"! It just folds up flat when you're done. But pull one of those baby's out in your lap on an airplane headed across the pond and somebody next to you is going to seriously object!

Un-knot your knickers 🙂. The reference was to Core 2 Duos being lower end as opposed to i5s and i7s in the context of allowing 16 GIGs.

I have to say that I'm really disappointed from the fact that a laptop that was the most expensive laptop in the market was unable to run 16gig.

That's bad for apple and for us the costumers!!!

I also believe this post is just to long.

From what i read at intel's web site my CPU I7 620m has a limit of up to 8gig :-( :-( :-(

Ill state in here that i didn't test 16gig on my laptop yet, and i'm quite positive that it wont work since Intel documentation is allways based on lab testing.

I tried a support call under applecare; the tech who answered my call says its a motherboard issue, and 8 gb RAM is the limit. I told him about these models being able to boot up in safe mode, but he said that it would be due to no startup items loading.

I am very dissapointed that I can't upgrade my "top of the line" computer past the 2010 standard. And it's not old enough to warrant replacing it with a newer model.
