Anybody has information about the difference in performance between the two configuration?

Can't find any good reviews & benchmarks as yet, pass the obvious specs that we all already have. I have an opinion but I need some real datas to back up my personal analysis.

My guess is that there'll be about a 15%-30% performance improvement between the i5 and i7 but you got an extra meg in L3 cache which help a bit more. But that's only my humble opinion... I need facts!

I need more data to get out and by my new MacBook Pro & my 25" screen!
Guess I'm just impatient... 😉

For what it's worth, I just ordered a 13" 2.3 GHz. i3 today, with 8GB RAM and 750GB HDD. According to Geekbench, which measures CPU and RAM only, this config will be almost exactly the same speed as the high-end 15" MBP I could have bought two weeks ago - sweet! Good luck!

I just ordered the 13" 2.3 GHz, i5, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD a couple of days ago. I went with the basic 13" because of the same reason that sfdiesel mentioned. Pretty happy about getting last year high-end model performance for that price. And the 13" is easy to carry around.

It'll be hooked up to a 23" screen & a Home Network with over 6TB so no need for a bigger HD on the Macbook Pro. 320GB will be plenty. I'll be adding 4GB RAM in the near future and that should meet my needs. It will do just fine for some light Photoshop, Illustrator and video editing. I already have a 27" 2.8GHz i7 that I'm mostly working from so the laptop should be used mostly by my girlfriend for her business.

And the money saved will be used toward buying an iPad! ;-))

It's on "Prepared for Shipment" so I should get it within the next 3-4 days.

Can't wait!

I finally got my new Macbook Pro 13" a couple of days ago. After 17 hours straight of pure pleasure, I got everything installed and configured and reading to go!

Here's my quick take on the performance of the 2.3GHz Dual-core, Intel Core i5, 4GB 1333MHz, 320GB 5400-rpm1, Intel HD Graphics 3000:

I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with the overall performance! I tested it out with CS5's PhotoShop, Illustrator & InDesign. Although I do not need them for super heavy duty usage, I was very happy with the result. Light video editing ran smoothly with very acceptable performance. All other software that I use are running very smoothly.

My only complain is with the video card. Not overly impressive. Especially when used with my 23" monitor.

All in all, very happy with my new laptop! As I mentioned, it will mostly be used by my girlfriend for business purposes and there is more than enough performance for all her needs.
