How to delete iphoto library??

so i am going to import all of my photos to aperture, and i need to know if what i plan on doing after is right

i want to delte the old iphoto library.
do i go into 'pictures' and then just put the iphoto library icon in the trash?

yes - drag it to the trash and empty the trash and it will be gone (be sure that is what you want prior to doing it -- and have a great backup in case you made a mistake)

I just did that, and the HD space is not showing, Get infor, for ex, still shows the same amount of free space. I have backed it up in a ext HD, this is not the problem, the issue is that i need the space to be able to import the library to aperture. Help is welcome.

Use the Apple ➙ Force Quit menu and relaunch the Finder. Then see if the HD occupied space has changed.
