Given that their own Lion page at http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/ explicitly confirms the existence of a preview, they might feel that nothing has been given away; but I'm sure they're grateful for the vigilance shown here.

Try this ,

select your .dmg file and open with Disk utility

02. select your Mac os X image from left panel box and then choose restore

03. drag and drop the Mac os image to source

04. drag and drop Mac's partition to destination

05. click restore

done ...

If it is dev software you must be under nondisclosure.
Last I looked violating nondisclosure is not legal.
Your post at very minimum says said software hasn't got installation instructions you can understand.
This is a user to user forum of finalized Apple products.
Thus I think your act of mentioning it is dev software is illegal.
Be careful where you talk about such things.

Perhaps you haven't heard of software intellectual property rights.
Violating those rights is against the law just as assuredly as breaking copyright is.
Those rights are clearly stated in the license agreement of any software you agree to.
Agreeing to them is agreeing to a contract.
You are skating on thin ice.

Note the emphasis above, provided by me. Mentioning that you have pre-release software is clearly sharing the information that it exists, and thus a violation of that agreement. How Apple chooses to proceed on such a revelation on their forums is up to them.

As to your question, if the pre-release software is given to you as a .dmg, I'm sure it is also accompanied by some kind of basic instructions as to what you're supposed to do with it. You'd better find those instructions, since nobody else who has access to that pre-release software is likely to want to jeopardize future invitations by answering you on a public forum.

Furthermore, installation methods aside, doing an installation from disc image is not normally done, except in situations where you have a multilicense network, and then it is normally not so much done as an image of the installer disc, but as an image of an already preinstalled hard drive on similar vintage Mac and model. When it is different, that's when you have to watch out for possible driver issues at least with Snow Leopard and before. And Snow Leopard and before don't typically support installation direct from an image of the CD. I believe there is also a method of using an image with Mac OS X Server, but I can't say for certain what its limitations are. Whatever methods are supported by Lion are still up in the air until it actually gets released. Hence the concern we show here.

Past OSX seeds have been distributed via downloaded disk image but required being burned to a disk (or restored to a hard drive) for installation. What applies for Lion cannot per the NDA be discussed here in a public forum.

Carbon Copy Cloner can be used too. Simply mount the dmg, select mounted img as source,
select your target drive and clone.
