MBP 2011 HDD/SSD + RAM

Hi there,

I'm up for a 2011 Model MBP (15" if that matters).
So now my question is which SSD is there built into it? +1100€ for a 512GB SSD is not THAT bad (according to the internet other 512GB SSD cost about the same?)

So is this a fast and reliable SSD or some slow one?

Also, upgrading RAM: If i choose to upgrade my RAM myself, does this affect waranty or apple care?

Also, i have a 22" monitor (not from apple) already here. Would i need a mini-displayport-to-dvi (monitor has a dvi input) or do i need a dual-link adapter?

none, Other OS

Apple hasn't said much in its specs about what the performance of the SSD drives would be, so I went to the MacWorld website and looked at the recent specs on the MacBook Air. Presumably, the Pro would have at least as good a drive as the high end of the Air line.

The performance figures are pretty impressive. Here's the link:

http://www.macworld.com/article/155186/2010/10/macbook_air.html

They also give a quick discussion of SSD v HDD, and mention that speeds could slow dramatically if you're a heavy user of the hard drive, but the initial speed of the processor (1.86G) and the SSD drive is second only to the then-most powerful laptop, the 15" MacBook Pro 2.4G Core i5.

It seems that the controlling factor in the speed of the SSD is the processor, not the memory.

As for upgrading your own RAM: the new Pro is unibody, so yea, you'd void your warranty. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

Well, I'm afraid I have to correct that. Upgrade memory and/or Hard Drive does not avoid the warranty. Both procedure are described on the MacBook Pro user guide and are considered on the "upgradable" area for users. But careful (it's also written there)

"If you attempt to install a replacement drive or memory and damage your equipment, such damage is not covered by the limited warranty on your computer."

You can see it with our own eyes: http://support.apple.com/manuals/#macbookpro section "Boost Your MacBook Pro".
