New 2011 MacBook Pro Heating Issue?

I bought the new 2011 line of MacBook Pros yesterday and was wondering if anyone else noticed that the processor heats up a lot faster causing the fans to rev up really high? I had Steam open yesterday re-downloading my games and the fan went ballistic and I don't see why when steam was only using roughly 20% CPU downloading those games. That never caused my previous MacBook Pro's fans to rev up like this.

Hello i will post here my temps for my MBP 2011 15 inch early i7 2.2Ghz.

Now i never had heat issues before, i use my mac for 8 months now, until recent i had a problem, i replaced the HDD with an SSD. I played sc2 played some intence 3d games never had a problem before, but recent i noticed a change in my system temps, it has been an increase in the temperatures. Also i want to add that the room temperature is low that means 18-21C also the Mag adaptor is off the screen shot temps are according to battery running not power running. p.s I will come back and post temps and uptime for a power test for about 7-8 hours pluged in the power source.

Today I´ve found the solution for the my problem - seems to be exactly yours so I´m sharing it hoping it helps you too. My macbook was very silent during the first months until a month ago, when it started to run at temperatures of 78´celsius, fans running up to 5000 rpm and battery not lasting more than 3 hours.

After weeks of searching solutions on forums, installing the iStats, reseting the SCS with no visible results today I realized a little program eating up my CPU - this was not constant, so even if sometimes I monitored the CPU activity I didn´t see it before. The process was HPShortcut Manager and was taking up to 90% of the CPU! In fact, on the exact same day I upgraded the Lion to the new .7.2 version, I also installed my HP scanner. Since then I had this heating problem but associated it to the Lion update. Wrong - after all it was HP process, runing constantly even when the scanner was disconnected. I´ve fixed it by going to System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Items. Here I´ve just kicked out the HP Shortcut from the Login Items, reseted the macbook and voilá! The heating problem is solved - the CPU doesnt get hotter than 50-60 degrees, the fans run very silently at a max of 2000 rpm. My mac is as new again 🙂

I´ve googled it afterwards and found this link, which validated my findings: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-Printing-and-Scanning/OS-X-scanner-driver-maxes -CPU/td-p/197310

Hope it helps!

I have two 2011 MBPs, two Mac Books and five iMacs, Mac Pros and Minis...2009-2011. Three iPhones.

I love em all except the 2011 MBP 13" i7. I can't even watch a friggin Netflix movie on the 13" MBP w/o it hitting 200F.

Yes, I've been to the Genius Bar.....same old company line...."it passes all diagnostics" "must be non-Apple software" or "well FCPX probably shouldn't be used on the 2011 MBP 13 i7"

Since my MBP 2011early started to have "heat problems" today after a period of 2 months of obervatio i noticed something strange today.. Since i bought my MBP i never wanted to play any games but because i was a huge fun of sc2 i wanted to give it a try ,, and so i did.

First time i played sc2 on my MBP with an 320intel ssd. it was quite and cool, CPU was all the time at 80 % idle, using only 20% to play sc2, my mac was cool between 40-50C while playing , we all know the gap between the Screen and the Keyboard(where as stated from Apple it can become hot sometimes) it was Warm and i want to point out that.. fans were approx.. 3120-3500RPM playing for hours for ex. 5hours.. taking a break (let it cool a bit) and back into Sc2..

Now the temps are at 75-80C and the RMP fans at maximum use 6200 all the time..

Now i will go back and explain what i noticed today,, CPU same as before 80% idle fans at 4000-4450RPM..

But there is something else strange about the behavior change 5 months ago,,, 1st is the fans increase 2nd is after the first 5 minutes playing sc2 fan start from 4000-4450 and then fans reach maximum use 6400RPM ,

What i want to say about that is that since there is not CPU load increase while playing sc2 why there is an acual increase in the temperatures.. Why wont Apple gives as a ressonable explanation about this????

Why i should have those Heat Issues .. I need answers ... Why the behavior of my MAC has been changed, and what i should do to prevent that from happening????

I just picked up a 2011 15.4" 2.2ghz i7 MBP (6750 512mb) on discount at a local retailer. Installed WOW and Diablo3 via OSX and bootcamped win7 for Origin and BF3. I noticed ONLY BF3 running LOW settings at 1200x800 res makes the fan run redicilously high. almost the ESC to the W keys are very warm to the touch. i guess a cooling pad would help but after 2-3mins its already hot, but good thing is the fan dies down quickly after it gets cooled off. I assume the cooling is doing well. Ill have to run some stuff through Photoshop and Final Cut to see if it pulls the same energy and heat.
