You will also not have a warranty on the iPad as it is valid only in country of purchase

This is incorrect.
Warranty for all Apple portable products is worldwide.
Warranty for other products may be limited.
-> One (1) Year Limited Warranty - Worldwide
"Apple or its Apple Authorised Service Providers will provide warranty service on products that are tendered or presented for service during the Warranty Period, as permitted by law. _If the product is portable, meaning that it can operate independently without a power cord, you may obtain warranty service worldwide._ However, service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. If the product is not portable, warranty service may be restricted to the country where the product is purchased."

Have you read the specific iPad Warranty here:

http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/ipad_warranty.pdf

The key sections to take into account are:

"Apple may restrict service to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the hardware product."

"If you seek service in a country that is not the country of original purchase, you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges."

I'm not bantin123, but there's 3 options:

- when in the US, buy one of those adapters that convert a US plug into the UK one
- buy the World Travel Adapter Kit from Apple, as already suggested above; the US plug on the power adapter is removable and can be replace with the UK plug from that kit
- if you have a spare / defective Apple power adapter, e.g. from a MacBook, lying around, you can also use the removable plug from that - they're all compatible

If you buy it in the USA you have to declare it at customs as you are only allowed to bring £145 worth of goods in to the uk per person. You will be expected to pay VAT on the iPad, if you don't you are breaking criminal law.

You will also not have a warranty on the iPad as it is valid only in country of purchase. This can be checked by Apple from the serial number if you ever try to use the warranty.

the usb cable is completly universal, just the power adapter you need to change.

would i not be able to use a uk plug on it as surely the connecter to the ipad is standard just the bit that goes into the countries electrics would be different

although i stand to be corrected

but would i not be able to use a uk plug on a us ipad in the uk as the adapter to go into the ipad must be the same

so in short buy a uk lead and get rid off or hide away the us one
