posix_spawn(..): No such file or directory

I would read those messages as suggesting that a system "Launch Daemon" is trying to run this executable file that is inside System Preferences.app
*/Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/Resources/installAssistant*

and cannot find it, whereupon the Launch Daemon keeps trying. It may be that part of your System Preferences application has somehow been damaged or changed. Is the System Preferences app still in your /Applications folder, and does it still seem to work OK? And what is your backup situation?

You have posted in the Snow Leopard forum, but have not completed your user profile so that we know what you are running - you should do so. I peeked inside the [OS X v10.6.6 combo update|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349], and it contains an updated full copy of that apparently missing InstallAssistant executable file. Assuming that you are running Snow Leopard, if your System Preferences application otherwise seems to work properly, you could try downloading and running that combo update, and then seeing if you still get those error messages.

I am having the same issue with the console reflecting a similar messages.
I can't figure out how to make them stop.

I can't run the combo updater. My guess is my MBP is too new.

I am going to create a test user account to see if it happens there.

I reinstalled the operating system with the disc that came with my computer...Now the message is not there.
Before I did that, I made a backup using time machine first to make sure that if the reinstallation failed, I would be ok...
Interestingly, upon reflection, I don't remember the installer asking if I wanted to archive and install or not...

The Snow Leopard installer essentially does what an Archive and Install used to do, but better.
It only does one thing, now. If you want to erase and install, you must go into Disk Utility and erase the drive yourself, and then finish the install.

Hi folks,

I'm having this same sort of problem on my MBP, although it's with a T-Mobile web stick that I no longer use (I also ran the uninstaller). I've re-applied the 10.6.7 Combo Updater and checked in my MacintoshHD/Library/LaunchDaemons folder to see if there's anything related to T-Mobile and there isn't. I'm not sure what to do next. Can anyone help?

Open Finder and type cmd-shift-g. Type /usr/libexec in the dialog and click Go.

Check to see if dpd is in the folder.
