iPhoto library upgrade hangs, application unresponsive.

Hello,

A few weeks ago all of a sudden my iPhoto library wouldn't open–I'd launch and get a spinning beach ball, force quit and try again, and get the beach ball. I deleted the .plist file to no avail, and then was told by someone who knows macs pretty well to just reinstall iPhoto and start fresh.

I reinstalled, updated to the latest version, and when I launch I'm told that my library needs to be upgraded. I start the upgrade and then after 30 seconds or so I get the beach ball and it says iPhoto is unresponsive. My library is around 50gb.

What should my next step be?

Thanks!

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
