May 6, 2011 8:12 AM in response to DanRybby El Presidente,Maybe the displays themselves need an updates...
-
May 6, 2011 1:43 PM in response to El Presidenteby BlackBearz,Wow - this really *****.
I originally was having all of the original symptoms - fragmented screen, blackouts, etc...
Apple Support had me reset the SMC (option-control-shift) - and it surprisingly fixed the fragmentation. I would still have occasional blackouts, about 1 per hour or two.
Today I updated using the two new updates and now am having blackouts about every couple minutes.
This is totally WORSE than before I updated!
I think I am going to see call Apple again and see what they can do ...
We all need to keep calling them. This is really absurd.

May 6, 2011 1:45 PM in response to BlackBearzby msinanian,Yea, truly bizarre situation. I bought the 27" ACD, so if y'all don't hear back from me, just assume my 2011 MBP and 27" happily eloped and your path to salvation is clear: get Apple to refund your 24" and get into something else. Bonus points: get them to give you store credit to buy a 27" (was unable to wiggle this one out of them myself...)
-
May 6, 2011 4:20 PM in response to DanRybby tbeseda,This is getting ridiculous. After applying both updates (with numerous 24" LED ACDs attached), the problem is not only still present but it's worse!
I originally only had blackout issues, but now i get odd fragmenting and artifacts strewn across the image.
For a developer staring, at tiny bits of text all day, it's just about the worst kind of interruption.

May 6, 2011 10:24 PM in response to DanRybby OzAl,Applied all the new updates to my 13" MBP i7 using 24" LCD.
Sadly still getting the flashing to black problem. I should keep a log :/
-
May 6, 2011 11:13 PM in response to DanRybby alexcord,Applied all updates to my 15" MBP i7 using 24" LCD and so far no more flashing or glitches (fingers crossed!!)
Hope it works out for all of us!

May 7, 2011 12:54 AM in response to alexcordby alexcord,I take it back, after a good a good couple of hours stints, the black flashing has started again :-(

May 7, 2011 7:24 AM in response to DJ John Dowby DJ John Dow,It's flicker and blackout time again.
Problems returned after a stable day since both updates.
D*** Apple's, I buy banana's next time.Serious, this ain't funny anymore, my ACD is 16 months old, my MBP 17" brand new.
Never had problems with my previous MBP 2009.(*&^%#$%^&*(
Take care, and keep bottering apple as much as we can.
This S**** big time. -
May 7, 2011 3:10 PM in response to DJ John Dowby Thorsten Geissler,I am having the same issues. 24 inch LED Display with 2011 13' MPB goes "black" on occasion. What's going on? I am really getting ******. Why doesn't Apple fix this issue once and for all. If they can't then replace MBP and/or monitors. What happened to Apple's so "famous" customer care and "quality control?" Must have been outsourced to China. I am ******.
-
May 7, 2011 5:39 PM in response to Thorsten Geisslerby BlackBearz,I gave up.
I returned my MacBook Pro to the Apple Store today.
The technician who was assisting me with my MacBook Pro was very helpful. He also had a new 15" MacBook Pro at home and was having similar issues with a different Mac monitor, but not as frequent.
I came home with a gift card for the original amount and went online to buy a 27" iMac. Crossing my fingers - but bought AppleCare just in case things develop over time.
For those who can't part with their laptop, I hope they come out with a better fix soon!

May 7, 2011 9:12 PM in response to DanRybby DJ John Dow,Thing can't get any worse now...
Although I thought things we're better after the updates...
I now had the tiled screen.
But I also had 2 system crashes in less than 10hrs.
My previous MBP had 2 in 18 months...Now can somebody tell me if this error report is related to the problems we all see?:
Every input is very welcome.

May 7, 2011 9:27 PM in response to DJ John Dowby Kevin Wojniak,It looks to me like it's related to the ethernet/networking driver, not the graphics/display.
-
May 7, 2011 9:43 PM in response to Kevin Wojniakby DJ John Dow,I had a closer look at the error too.
You might be right. Most of it is system info.
All other jibish points to usb/networking.
I'm certainly not an expert, so expert input is welcome.I did submit the report.
I mentioned before, the Networking is also not rocksolid.
It doesn't get an ip from the TimeCapsule all the time when inserting the Network cable. Also had the iPhone connected with "personal hotspot enabled" so 2 internet connections present.
Anyway it's all of topic, BUT not very good neither. -
May 7, 2011 10:00 PM in response to DJ John Dowby El Presidente,^
It is a known issue that Personal Hotspot mode when used with the new MBPs causes a Kernel Panic.
