May 10, 2011 4:54 PM in response to DanRybby tbeseda,Alright.
I waited long enough for a proper update, so I took one of my 24" ACDs into Apple's Genius Bar. Waited a day for the cable to get replaced (despite my explanation about the commonality of the issue). Brought it back home. Issue persists (and may even be more frequent).
I've since avoided calling or going back in order to spare the representative that meets my frustration.
I suspect the issue may be unfixable and Apple is ultimately trying to avoid replacing thousands of defective/incompatible units.

May 11, 2011 3:22 AM in response to DanRybby El Presidente,Am i the only one who can no longer do a cable disconnect/reconnect when there is a graphics glitch because both the laptop and cinema displays refuse to come back on forcing you to shut down?
I think i'm gonna put my MBP on ebay today.

May 11, 2011 5:27 AM in response to ericthecatby El Presidente,Thats weird. I just tried it again and still the same thing. Once i disconnect the cable its over until i force shutdown.

May 11, 2011 6:08 AM in response to El Presidenteby ericthecat,Is that the same whether there's a glitch or not? Just tried disconnect/reconnect here and its still fine... haven't had any glitches today...

May 11, 2011 7:19 AM in response to El Presidenteby suliko,I sometimes have something similar -
I use the 24 ACD as the main display with the menu bar and the MBP's 15 as a side one. The additional problem this setup has - beyond the glitches, fragmentations and blackouts - is that the MBP doesn't always recognise that the ACD has gone even if you disconnect it. It is like the thunderbolt is still recognising something as being connected even when there isn't anything running through it. When I remember, I open up the system prefs and leave them in the background of the MBP, since running a detect displays sometimes brings the ACD back.
Not wishing to sound too British, but this is getting beyond a joke. It seems real Apple customers no longer seems to matter and all they care about are their iPad consumers...

May 11, 2011 8:46 AM in response to El Presidenteby Kevin Wojniak,I've had this happen a few times since the firmware update. And a few other issues where connecting the display while the MBP is sleeping causes the MBP to freeze when it's attempting to wake up. Both require forcing a shutdown.

May 11, 2011 9:15 AM in response to Kevin Wojniakby El Presidente,Yup. This only started happening post-FW/SW updates.

May 11, 2011 3:03 PM in response to El Presidenteby DJ John Dow,Just had a live gig.
In my life set there are 2 HP displays, connected to a MATROX Dual Head To Go, DP edition.8Hrs absolutely flawless. Rocksolid. And that's ironic, it's a "weird complex" set-up.
No Issues at all.
Back home: 24 ACD imeditate the usual problems.@El Presidente... need to force shutdown? Wow, that would be a showstopper....
Keep posting everyone.
To me it's all one big joke with no solution ahead. I don't think software can do the trick.
My tip for now: interference in the cable... I don't know, but we all don't seem to be able to exactly narrow it down.... -
May 11, 2011 3:27 PM in response to DanRybby tbeseda,After updating the firmware, showing a Genius this thread, having them still insist on replacing my monitor's cable, and then having the problems persist, I finally insisted on a replacement.
27" in hand. 6 more to replace my company's other 24"s are on the way.
Glad to have an upgrade, but ridiculous nonetheless.

May 11, 2011 9:16 PM in response to DanRybby jyang86,Went to the Genius Bar for the third time in the past month to get the flickering fixed. Told them I was tired of bringing it in for repair. Since my monitor was bought in September 2009, they couldn't give me a full refund, but they swapped it out for a 27" and just had me pay for the difference in price (~$150). I get another full year's warranty with it too. Using the 27" right now and no problems so far. I'm happy with the exchange. For any of those still having this problem, try getting a 27". Definitely worth it and who knows how long (if ever) it will take apple to fix the 24" flickering problem.

May 12, 2011 2:11 PM in response to tbesedaby msinanian,@tbesda, they replaced your 24" for free? There was no upgrade charge or anything? You went in with your flickering 24" and walked out with a brand-new 27" without opening your wallet? How old was your 24?
