Q: Failure To Sync - 0xE800002D

In the last few days, I've been getting the following error when syncing apps with my iPhone 4:

The app "1Password" was not installed on the iPhone "Isla 4" because an unknown error occurred (0xE800002D).

The app name is irrelevant, because it says this about every single app that is out of sync between my iPhone and MacBook. I am a professional technology consultant, so have already tried a number of steps to resolve the problem. What I know so far is this:

1 - Using a different sync cable made no difference.
2 - Using a different USB port made no difference.
3 - I can download apps directly to my iPhone without trouble, but they don't sync back to my Mac.
4 - I can download apps directly to my Mac without trouble, but they don't sync back to my iPhone.
5 - Syncing my contacts, calendar, mail and music all sync properly, and do not cause any errors.

So this issue appears to relate ONLY to app syncing (in either direction), and came up out of the blue.

If anyone has ever experienced this specific error before, and knows how to resolve it, please help! I've been considering a full wipe and restore of my iPhone, but it's a step I'd prefer to avoid if possible.

    Is it customary for APPLE to never reply to SUPPORT discussions like this one???
    I have exactly the same problem - for months now. And still I see no response from APPLE.
    Looks like it's only ever "Users helping Users".

    ****** off - 3 iPhones, 3 iPod 160gb, 2 Macbook 17" i7 Pros and all you get is user support where all we seem to do is chase out tails and ask "Has Apple responded to anyone yet?".

    User community - thank you all for trying to find a fix. Time to get tough with bloody apple.

    It seems I found the solution (well, it worked for me):

     

    1. Unplug your iPhone/iPad from the computer

    2. Hold both buttons until it appears the Apple logo (hold'em after the "slide to shut down". About 15 sec)

    3. Before plugging back, DE-Authorize your computer (iTunes > Store > Deauthorize this computer)

    (don't worry. nothing is going to happen and you won't lose a thing)

    4. Authorize your computer back (iTunes > Store > Authorize this computer)

    5. Plug in you iPhone/iPad

    6. SYNC

     

    This solved my problem.

    I hope it solves yours (I had 11 apps that showed the 0xE800002D error).

    I just got this error with two different apps. Simply restarting my iPhone fixed this problem for me.

     

    - Hold down the lock button until the red slider appears

    - Swipe the slider to turn it off

    - Press the lock button for a few seconds to turn it on again

    - Sync with iTunes

    I too just started getting errors.

    I like that last one.  "it could not back up your iphone because the backup failed".  They're hiring MS employees apparently. 

     

    Anyway I'm restoring then sending all my info back to the unit.  If it continues I'll post here.

     

    UPDATE:  Even after restoring, it will not work.  Further testing.

     

    UPDATE 2:  XCode installation will screw up the Sync Services folder apparently.  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627

    Um, the problem in some cases is that you can't back up.  If you can't back up, then you're screwed.  Problem not solved.

    If you want a reply from APPLE, you need to contact them directly. Posting a message in the discussion forums is not contacting them directly. Go into your iTunes account information, choose one of the app purchases that is displaying the error message, click on to "report a problem" and tell them about the problem you are having.

     

    I had this error message regarding 65 of my iPad apps. I restarted. I upgraded iOS. I did everything that was suggested. Only after I deleted an app that wasn't for my version of iPad (Camera+) did the applications all load without a hitch.

     

    My problem is solved.

    Aside from turning the device off and on, resetting the device by holding down the front Home Button and the top Lock Button for a few seconds until you see the Apple logo, you can try the following to address the error 0xe800002d:

    Simply go into the App Store on the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, select updates at the bottom of the screen and update the apps from there (preferably over WiFi as it will be faster). On your next sync with iTunes, everything should work fine.

    ANother thing that worked from me per the Apple troubleshooting tips was to use iTunes to delete just one App from the iPhone through iTunes. Select your device from the column on the left, click on Apps in the top of the device window, remove a checkmark from any App in the Sync Apps section, and click Sync.

    Disconnecting the iPhone from the computer, then shutting down the iPhone completely, then restarting & Syncing worked for me also.

    Just wanted to offer this as a help to all of you still experiencing this problem. I tried all of the above to no avail. Then, randomly, on a whim, went to the Apps section in iTunes under the Library heading (see here for reference) and just dragged one of the apps that wasn't syncing like it should to the connected iPhone (see here). And, like unexpected magic, a sync started and went straight to syncing the problematic apps. Yep, all of 'em, all 9 I was having problems with. It was a beautiful sight! A bit of a work around, but it accomplished the end goal.

     

    So give it a try. I hope it works for some you.

    Just started getting this error with multiple apps on my iPhone 3GS (iOS 4.3) Mac is MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. OS is Lion 10.7.1

     

    For me, the fix was a 'double' hard-reset of my iPhone;

     

    1) Hold down the power button and the home button at the same time.

    2) Keep holding them down even when the "Slide to power off" message appears.

    3) Keep holding them down when the screen goes black.

    4) When the Apple logo reappears, let go both buttons.

    5) When prompted, Slide to Unlock the iPhone.

    6) Now do steps 1-5 again.

     

    I don't know if the double hard-reset is an urban myth, but it solved this error for me.
